To love “plastic tat” toys

Someone recently gave us a load of 6+ toys for baby. Think Fisher-Price piggy bank, cook jar shape sorter etc. I spent a happy afternoon cleaning them and putting new batteries in etc. I can’t wait for baby to use them, they look like they’ll keep her occupied for ages! I admit, the songs may annoy me after a while.

On the other hand I have also got some wooden toys. They look so boring... don’t worry, baby will have a good variety and I do see the need to help with imagination, motor control etc etc

I just don’t get the snobbiness about “plastic tat”. I read/hear it all the time. Personally I can’t wait for baby to use them!

Yeah the piggy bank was v popular in our house. It always struck me as very good for fine motor skills.

alessandro has it spot on. The 80's were rubbish in lots of ways but some of the best toys were thought up in that decade!

I'm glad people who like them exist. Means the one i bring to the charity shop get a loving new home (if it needs a battery, it doesn't stay in ouf house).
We are happy with our wooden toys, duplo and meccano. you are happy with the noisy plastic stuff. Great!

@DwangelaForever don't think i'm snobby- just noise sensitive.
Rainbow is great for kids who like building/constructing/balancing, my 5 year old playd with it a lot. Waste of money for kids who don't enjoy this!

We have had a mixture but it depends on your childs interests. Some children need toys that have a purpose and cannot work out what to do with open ended toys.

Some plastic is tat - magazine toys, poundshop or cheap shop replicas. Even some of the character stuff is badly made.
