Taking children to a house viewing?

In your opinion lovely mumsnetters? As either the buyer or seller, is it ok to take young children along to view a house for sale?

Yes.

AtlanticWaves · 19/01/2018 15:16

We always do. They enjoy it and are very well behaved because it's all so new and exciting.

InDubiousBattle · 19/01/2018 15:16

Yes, why not?

Randomlywondering · 19/01/2018 15:16

Absolutely fine.

NoqontroI · 19/01/2018 15:17

I'd prefer not to but there isn't always a choice. Apart from not to view at all that is.

Notasperfectasallothermners · 19/01/2018 15:18

Surely definitely yes? Makes the idea of moving more real and ultimately easier to cope with!!

londonrach · 19/01/2018 15:18

I did as a child. It was great fun. We were 8 and 6 so not babies. One lady gave us a penguin choc bar and my sister and i sat quietly and enjoyed our treat.

Trinity66 · 19/01/2018 15:18

What would be the problem?

Outlookmainlyfair · 19/01/2018 15:18

I’m not sure why it would be a problem, either way.

10thingsIKnowAboutYou · 19/01/2018 15:19

Yes, I've taken mine with me to view a house we wanted to rent.

blaaake · 19/01/2018 15:19

I didn't take them to the first viewing but I did to the second. Why wouldn't you?

Onceuponatartanshoelace · 19/01/2018 15:19

Have taken ours to quite a few viewings, though would probably get them out when we are selling..

Bubblegumfan · 19/01/2018 15:19

We want to go and view houses, but no childcare that fits when we are both off work. My 2 dc are very well behaved but I am worried the sellers will think us cheeky

afrikat · 19/01/2018 15:20

Took mine to dozens when we were looking and plenty brought them to look round our house. It's fine!

restbiterepeat · 19/01/2018 15:20

Yes. As a buyer and a seller, which I was last year, I'd be happy for children to attend viewings.

InDubiousBattle · 19/01/2018 15:21

I wouldn't give it another thought op! I think people just want you to wipe your feet not organise childcare!

StealthNinjaMum · 19/01/2018 15:21

Yes, we took our toddler with us last time we were viewing houses, it wouldn't be worth getting childcare for the half an hour the viewing took. I think most people would understand.

user1474652148 · 19/01/2018 15:21

Yes of course - it is great fun for them

clairethewitch70 · 19/01/2018 15:21

When we were house hunting we looked by ourselves (DH & myself). When we choose the house we wanted to buy we booked a second viewing and took the kids along to that. I think if we had taken them to every viewing they would have been bored or got their hopes raised up against ones we did not like.

restbiterepeat · 19/01/2018 15:21

No, they'll mostly be pleased that you actually turned up after they have tidied the whole house and you have a genuine interest in buying.

FurCoatFurKnickers · 19/01/2018 15:22

It's going to be their home as well so I don't see a reason why they shouldn't go.

soundsystem · 19/01/2018 15:22

Yep! We moved recently and took ours with us, and I think it did help get them used to the idea of moving.

When we sold our house we left some tasteful, beautifully arranged toys out for any children to play with.

PilarTernera · 19/01/2018 15:22

Yes completely fine.

Mistydampandwet · 19/01/2018 15:26

It's absolutely fine!

However please don't let them walk around the house tucking into a punnet of strawberries like someone did when I was trying to sell our flat once, good example of CF behaviour!

BekoLeGecko · 19/01/2018 15:26

YANBU but make sure they're well behaved and pre agree which one of you will take them out/back to the car if they play up.
I remember a couple viewing my house they brought 6 children under 10 to view (weird in itself as it was a 3 bed) I was on my own and almost as soon as the kids got through the door they scattered in different directions. I was only expecting a couple not a family of 8 so I was unnerved, scatty and all over the place as well as annoyed.

One child ended up being bitten by my hamster (despite being told please don't touch him he's very ill and can be aggressive if you scare him, the lad stuck his fingers in the cage) and another jumped on DH and I's bed and broke the slats. We got someone else in to do the viewings after.
Don't do that to them OP!
