Posting here for traffic, I had them fitted yesterday. No problem getting them in and out etc. My front teeth, upper and lower are the ones feeling the most tender. I seem to be fine eating, albeit carefully. But brushing my teeth is excruciating! They feel like they are going to fall out and just so sensitive it's unbearable. Has anyone else experienced this? If it's normal I can deal with it!

Yes it's normal. I've had mine in for 10 weeks now. The first 4 days were very achey especially brushing my teeth and eating. Now I don't get any discomfort at all except when I use the chewies for 20 mins a day. This is because my orthodontist wants to accelerate me through the next stage and change aligners every week instead of 2. My teeth have moved since Monday- I can see parts of one tooth I've never seen before because they are uncrossing. Keep them in as much as possible and ride it out- ibuprofen is best in the meantime.

BornInSydneyy · 19/01/2018 12:43

Never had them but I had braces as a child and yes the first 2 weeks were painful and I could barely eat but absolutely fine after that.

Did they explain the aftercare to you?

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/01/2018 12:45

Ok thank you. It's just the tooth brushing, it hurts so much I couldn't believe it. They did explain aftercare but didn't mention brushing in particular. Just that if it was painful to take ibruprofen. I was surprised by how much it hurt!

I know, it was a strong pain for me too. But it went really quickly. Now I don't like taking my aligners out as my teeth feel too thin without them- I've got used to them so much! With the aligners know your teeth are under gentle pressure but when you brush your teeth you are putting more pressure on each small area which causes the discomfort. You will get used to it althoygh it feels horrible now. I changed to an electric toothbrush as I'm now brushing more often (after meals as well as morning and night) which is more convenient.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/01/2018 12:53

I am using an electric one, I wondered if it might be too strong? But then saying that using a manual one would just prolong the pain!

Tinkofhousepan · 19/01/2018 12:54

I work at a dental practice and this is perfectly normal. The aligners are putting pressure on the teeth to move them, it should feel more normal in a few days!

windygallows · 19/01/2018 12:58

Yes, totally normal. I'm on week 24 and it gets lots better. Time flies by and it's amazing to see the difference in your teeth.

Invisalign also great for weight loss as impossible to snack!

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/01/2018 12:59

Ah thank you everyone. I have already noticed that re snacking! I had to eat my lunch and afternoon chocolate all in one go to make sure I got it in haha!

I have an appointment on Tuesday for a smile evaluation to see what they'd look like if I went ahead with Invisalign.

I've wanted them for years I just hope I can get some sort of finance

WeeBeasties · 19/01/2018 13:03

I have had invisalign for two years now. Yes the pain is totally normal. They get that tender with each new trey, however the further along you get with treatment the less it hurts as they won't be moving so much.

I have my final orthodontist app today where I get my retainer! I'm celebrating by treating myself to teeth whitening as well. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the process.

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 19/01/2018 13:05

Weebeasties are you happy with the results?

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/01/2018 13:05

2 years?! I could not imagine having them for them in for that long. You must be so happy to be finished! Thank you I will bear that in mind.

Broom I have wanted them for ages too! Like 10 years!

Can I ask how much the whole process cost you all?

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 19/01/2018 13:08

£3249 and I paid in full having saved for 10 years

KevinTheYuccaPlant · 19/01/2018 13:11

The good news is this is probably the worst it will get :) You'll get a couple of days of discomfort each time you change to a new set, but it won't be as bad as the first week of the first set.

WeeBeasties · 19/01/2018 13:12

Yes.
I had very wonky teeth to start with. At my app they are doing photos so i can have a before and after, I'll post it up later.

I had one problem tooth that was really far back and if I'm being picky I'd like it bringing forward just a teeny tiny bit but it's got as far as it will go/ any further and I won't be able to bite properly.

One down side is that my front teeth were sort of twisted so not prominent, but now they are front and centre you can really see how big they are compared to my other teeth. As a result I'm having these filed down so they are less rabbity, which will cost extra at £62 per tooth.

So the invisalign do work but be warned you may discover new cosmetic problems with your new straighter teeth so invisalign may not be the end of the road. But that doesn't apply to all. I really must emphasize how bad my teeth were.

WeeBeasties · 19/01/2018 13:13

Also cost me around £3500. I paid half up front and the rest over a year with 0% finance through the orthodontist.

PlateOfBiscuits · 19/01/2018 13:15

A bit more saving for me. So glad it was so successful for you.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/01/2018 13:19

My teeth are straight but I had some gaps which I am closing. I should be done and dusted within 3 months, presuming there are no problems! It cost £3,500 , and I know this is very expensive but I have honestly wanted it done for so long, oh and yes I saved up too! But they had lots of payment options which I would have gone for if not.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/01/2018 13:20

Oh and that includes whitening after and permanent wire retainer after

I am on tray one, I have attachments so I know the tray is in the right place and it's nice and tight. Apart from the bottom left molar which keeps popping up slightly. Has anyone else experienced this? It's isn't fully up but it won't stay right down. I just don't want this to affect the treatment. Seeing dentist next Thursday but just wanted opinions.

RubbishG3nericUsername · 25/01/2018 20:31

Mine were the same. Painful, but so unbelievably worth it!

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 25/01/2018 20:33

Your dentist might need to shave a bit off the molar you mention, but it might equally just come into line this week. See how it goes.

Mine cost £1500 all-in but this was 10 years ago.
