DP is taking me to a very naice restaurant on Saturday for my birthday
We went yesterday to have a quick lunchtime drink & a general nosey . I’m love a G & T but was floored that they wanted £14 for one ! Guess it will be tap water with the meal 😂

Hmmm I tend to drink nice gin at home now!

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 19/01/2018 19:48

iklboo the Sheffield one, can't book for this year yet, tickets not out as it's usually September time.
YY to the tasters, lol Grin

I've never been to a Ginfestival, want to go now Envy

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 19/01/2018 20:02

www.ginfestival.com/events/
Have a look to see if there's one near you...

iklboo · 19/01/2018 21:16

Recommend them Sauvignon - good afternoon / night out.

Olikingcharles · 20/01/2018 13:08

I agree with those saying plain ordinary Gin without all the extra flavours is the way go. I just don't get why they feel it's necessary.

ephemeralfairy · 20/01/2018 14:52

I love gin. Our local does the big goblets with various fancy garnishes and choice of different Fever Tree tonic waters. £8 for a double but it feels like a real treat so I'm happy to pay it.

squoosh · 20/01/2018 16:09

Doesn't plain old Gordon's generally win out in these blind tests?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 20/01/2018 19:23

To me Gordons is fucking vile, can't stand the stuff even when bollocksed, it depends on your taste though as I know quite a few people who rate it... heathens

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 19:37

Is that a super fancy gin then? I'm sure they must sell a Gordon's?

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 19:39

I had a nice Bombay Sapphire and Fever Tree slimline last night for £4.90. No way would I pay £14 for one drink.

Mycashybear · 20/01/2018 20:11

Holy Jesus Shock

caperberries · 20/01/2018 20:23

I prefer drinking gin at home or in the airport lounge, where the bottle is left out and you can mix your own...

Paperdolly · 20/01/2018 20:39

I'm so into gin my OH bought me a gin rack from a guy who makes them in Southampton. www.slatewineracks.co.uk/. Mine's Portland stone. That's how dedicated I am! 😂

IDismyname · 21/01/2018 08:23

I love a good gin, but confine my gin drinking to home these days.

It's a ridiculous sum of money to ask for a G&T!

kokosnuss · 21/01/2018 11:56

It’s the new prosecco. It’ll pass.

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 21/01/2018 17:04

Was in a pub in Glasgow last week which had a gin menu. If you didn't order a double of the fancy gin you didn't get in a fancy glass - singles in ordinary glasses only. They were serving everything with a slice of grapefruit whether it suited the gin or not. I ordered a Gordons and tonic from the gun. It was £3 and tasted the best of everything.

Kbear · 22/01/2018 20:22

In our local the tonic (Fever Tree) is as expensive as the Gin - I said can I just have a schweppes Tonic? No, they only sell Fever Tree - making a G&T £6 instead of about £4.50 like it used to be.

Fuckers

cardibach · 22/01/2018 20:30

I just don't get why they feel it's necessary
Because it makes nice flavours, Oli. I like a simple gin sometimes, but the flavours of different botanicals are nice too. Depends on my mood. It’s a bit like wondering why people think apple juice, cranberry juice etc are necessary when orange is perfectly nice.

CommonGrounds · 22/01/2018 20:34

£19 in a 4 star hotel in central london

Wow- do they do a 70 bottle- that its how many bottles I have. Always been a gin drinker but I have had enough- many craft gins are crap- sorry!!

LemonysSnicket · 22/01/2018 20:44

I was charged £29 for two cocktails in London once. Floored.
