DS had 4 month immunisations today, also has a nasty little cold. Tonight he won't be put down without screaming, lots of moaning noises when held, no smiles, temperature of 38, super snuffly and generally very unhappy.
Is this normal after injections? He wasn't like this after previous two. Would you take him to the docs tomorrow if he was your DS? I've been giving him calpol but he has just had his fourth dose since his injection so isn't allowed any more until 11 ish.
He was a month early and 4.9 at birth- not sure if relevant!

I'm surprised they did them ifhe had a nasty cold OP.

I would take him to the docs if he hasn't perked up in the morning. Is he drinking and wetting?

iggleypiggly · 19/01/2018 02:40

I would keep temperature down and see how he is in morning. I didn’t think they vaccinated when not feeling 100%? Times must have changed. Hope he’s better in morning Smile

Each case is different obviously but my DC usually had this reaction after injections. Especially after the 3-in-one injections. I think it makes them feel uncomfortable and sometimes the site of the injection hurts. Calpol should help. But if you're very worried, you can always ring the doctor or 111 and see what they say, no harm in that and at least you'll have professional opinion Flowers

Hi. My DS was exactly the same as this after these injections (and was fine with the previous ones and the ones after). He was hysterical all night and had a fever, which I think all passed after about 24 hours. It was horrible and we had hours of stripping him down, calpol and lots of screaming. I think it is very normal, but I'd call 111 if he's not a bit better mid morning.

FWIW my DS was poorly when he had his 1 year injections and they said that it was fine for him to have the injections as long as he didn't have a fever (pre-injections).

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 19/01/2018 03:13

Totally normal judging by mine. They all had fevers, wanted lots of cuddles and had diarrhoea for a few days. Then fine.

As PP said, Drs don’t care about colds for vaccinations. They care about more serious viruses that cause a fever, but just a cold is no reason to put off getting shots.

Completely normal I had this last week with DD

Mycashybear · 19/01/2018 05:33

Ahhhh bless him. It’s completely normal my 9 month old DS was the same. If you are really concerned give the health Vistior a call. Maybe try the parenting board too they may have other x

They'll only delay vaccinations if the child has a fever. I was concerned my daughter wasn't well when she went for her one year jabs, her temp was normal so they went ahead and she came out in Chicken Pox the next day.
If you're still worried about your son in the morning I'd get him checked out.
