AIBU to think of reporting egg-throwing incident to the police?

Hi, over the last three months we've had 3 egg-throwing incidents. First one was at the window sill, so initially thought that our cat might have raided a nest (she is a prolific hunter). Second one (car front screen) was a few days after Halloween, so again, assumed it might be kids still mucking about. Asked next door neighbor - they've had no problems. Last incident: 18:45 New Year's Eve. Now, I also have a recording (last incident) of a car driving past our house and it's clear the egg (again at our car) came from there but it was dark and numberplate isn't quite visible. By the way, I got DH to install some small but fairly good security cameras after the second incident (and after having our bikes stolen awhile ago). I wanted to call the police, since I am getting worried that we are being targeted but DH thinks I'm overreacting. In all honesty, neither of us can think of any reason/person as to why? AIBU in wanting to report or would I be wasting police time, do you think?

Depends where you're situated. Are any of your neighbours getting egged?

Restlessandwild · 18/01/2018 21:24

No, and it is relatively small side street running parallel and above fairly busy road. There is a primary school very close but it is not the sort of road you'll happen to drive past by chance. It is actually hard for two cars to get past each other and a single yellow line along the 5-6 houses. There aren't any houses opposite us.

Near a town center in Surrey

How long have you lived there? Maybe they think it's the old resident who lives there if you don't know anyone who would target you

TBH egg throwing in a town centre is par for the course unfortunately. It's a fucker cleaning it off windows but it's not causing damage as such? I've had it before but unless it causes damage the police won't be bothered much

LemonysSnicket · 18/01/2018 21:30

Please do. Some teens once threw eggs at people on the Main Street of my town. I had to move to be smashed in the face with them because I had to shield my friend ... who is deathly allergic to eggs.

Fuckers don’t realise how dangerous it can be.

If you go on the Surrey police website, in the top right corner, it gives you the option to find your local police team. Do that it should then give you the names of your local neighbourhood officers who you can call on 101 or email via an online form. Have a chat with them. In all honesty, nothing will probably come of it but you never know.

Shit Lemony that's awful!

An ex had his car egged and the breaking shells took the paint off in circles. So it can do expensive damage, might be worth having a proper check of your car if you haven't already.

I think I would report it, they probably won't be able to do anything without more info, but if it isn't just you then knowing their route / that they were in a car etc. might tie in with other incidents and be helpful.

Thanks WallisFrizz, I'll definitely look up the Surrey police website, etc. And yes, AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers there was a little bit of damage and I was made quite late. It took me ages to clean off dried egg 😬! I guess I was hoping that the police will have better technology and will be able to get the numberplate from our security camera video.. Will have to check tomorrow. ThisLittleKitty We have been living here for near 6 years now and the area is nice (detached houses on our street, semis on the surrounding roads, etc)

That's awful, LemonysSnicket, must've been quite scary too. I am not easily intimidated, but it feels quite unsettling to think that someone out there might be deliberately targeting us.
