Neighbour knocked on door at 6.30am for this reason

To tell me my dustbin had blown into her garden and was repeatedly smashing against her wall.

It’s awkward as even if I knew about this, I doubt I’d have knocked to retrieve my bin back and relive her in the fear I’d have woken her up...

I’m not sure if she knew her rubbish had blown all over the street

My alarm goes off 6.45am. I cannot be held responsible for those that wake me up at 6.30am Grin. Thos 15 minutes count!

JacquesHammer · 19/01/2018 17:38

Do they always consider anything they don't agree with as being goading (or 'goady' in the mn vernacular)?

Well given your comment surrounding people who sleep in past what? 7.30 to be "slobby" and "lazy", it's a fair assumption you're aiming for a reaction

pollymere · 19/01/2018 17:40

Our bin was banging into the side of dh car. I wish someone had knocked on our door, even at 6am. I can understand she was very worried about the damage. It is a little early...but then you did answer the door (we'd have been asleep!)

SkaterGrrrrl · 19/01/2018 17:47

On a work day I get up at 7. If my door bell rang before that, I would assume someone had died in a tragic circumstances and the police were here.

Loonoonow · 19/01/2018 17:47

In the unlikely event of this happening to me and me giving a fuck about it I would have gone down to my garden, retrieved the annoying bin lid and chucked it over the fence to you or returned it to you at a reasonable hour. Your neighbour sounds deranged.

petbear · 19/01/2018 17:57

@paxillin

Posters who get up at 8.15 - do you not have DC to get ready for school? Jobs to go to?

School starts at 9, work at 10, we leave at 8:45. Mornings are shower, teeth, breakfast, go. Kids aren't toddlers any more so get themselves ready. 6:30 is as rude as 1am.

I'm always surprised that people think their life is the standard we all live by.

This. ^ Not only that, but there is an annoying, smug, sanctimonious attitude from these people too. Like they are somehow superior.

@CosyClara

I knocked my neighbours door at 8.30 one morning to ask if his power was off as we had a power cut... he answered in nothing but a pair of brightly coloured Y Fronts needless to say I have never knocked on anyones door in the morning since...

It was 7 years ago and I can still see it if I close my eyes!!!

😂😂😂

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 19/01/2018 18:02

You were awake. I'd assume she knew you were awake whether from the noise of you moving about or because you told her when you get up.

Leontine · 19/01/2018 18:02

If someone knocked on my door at 6:30 I'd be shitting myself as I'd assume something awful had happened.

purplebunny2012 · 19/01/2018 18:06

How unfortunate a poster's school starts at 8.15. Ours starts at 9am. So again, everyone's circumstances are different
However, I start work at 8am, so he's in breakfast club just after 7.30am, but I still don't get up until 7am at the earliest (I'm not feeding him and I eat toast at work).

nursy1 · 19/01/2018 18:06

Seems as much effort to go round and knock on your door as it would have been to get the bin and put it inside your gate.
Unless she is disabled or frail or something?

zeeboo · 19/01/2018 18:28

@HermionesRightHook put a breeze block in the bottom of it?
A) where would I get a single breeze block from?
B) how could I possibly retrieve it? If I could be bothered to get the wheelie bin on it's side and somehow figure out how to shake the block down and out, what if the bag of rubbish I replace it with isn't heavy? Do i put the breeze block back in and then tip the rubbish and breeze block out before I put the next bin bag of rubbish in?

I can imagine if people started doing this, eventually a bin would go to the kerbside with a block in it and it would break the bin lorry's compacting mechanism, costing thousands.

petbear · 19/01/2018 18:34

Putting a breeze block in the bottom is not only not very doable, because it would be impractical, but I'm sure it wouldn't stop the bin from moving!

purplebunny2012 · 19/01/2018 18:37

5Plus you are being very obtuse. How can you say none of the posters on here should do night shifts but recognise they are essential? Who should be doing them, then? Monkeys?

teresagresswell · 19/01/2018 18:57

I can see both sides- bin could of damaged cars etc but why she couldn't move it herself when she was walking over anyway is beyond me. For it to blow away in the first place I would assume it was empty and I doubt many people would struggle to pull an empty wheelie bin. My grandmother moves hers and is 92.

I wouldn't of been impressed though. I get up with DH at 7.30 quick shower and out the door. We both eat breakfast when we get to work and DD is sorted out by DSDs/Nanny when she wakes up at 8am.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 19/01/2018 19:09

Rhiannon they're just envious really! 😂

jadenash2013 · 19/01/2018 19:19

My reply is a simple one and I won't get into what times are socially acceptable to get up , by god the world is 24/7 and some are up early some not so job related or not and I don't think that's the topic here.

Regarding the bin, me personally would move it the first time, if however it was a reoccurring thing that was waking me up then yes why shouldn't I wake up the persons whose bin it is. If their bin is waking me why should I be the only one awake and not them. I consider myself a good neighbour and would accept this that are out of someone's control to be accidental here and there but if it's constantly going on then it would drive me nuts.

Smudge100 · 19/01/2018 19:35

I don’t open my garage door before 11am at the weekend, even if i really want to get something out, because i don’t want to disturb my neighbours who work very hard all week, so yes, i think it is unreasonable. She could have dealt with it herself but was obviously making a point that she’d been woken up early by waking you up early.

5plusMeAndHim · 19/01/2018 19:48

purplebunny
please do not embarrass yourself anymore.Obtuse is not being able to recognise clear tongue in cheek

ChocolateWombat · 19/01/2018 19:49

If there was an extreme storm and terrible damage being done, it might be acceptable to tell neighbours at any time. Nit would have to be pretty serious though.

The time people get up isn't that relevant to whether it is acceptable to knock at 6.30. People don't normally expect visitors or knocks on the door until after 8am at the earliest. Unless there we an absolute emergency, I wouldn't knock before this and ideally not before 8.30. If I needed to go out before that, I would drop a note through the door with the info that needed passing on.

The timing and the non-emergency nature of the info suggests the neighbours were really irritated by the bin and probably more than necessary. They could easily move the bin themselves. There was no need to get the owner to move it themselves, especially at that time. It seems passive aggressive to me.

When it's windy, all kind of things blow down the road, especially on bin day. People can easily move a bin which is blocking their drive or path or in the road etc. It is entirely normal to just get on and do it, without a big fuss. And to be honest, if a bin caused some kind of damage in very windy weather, I think it's just bad luck - there's no real reason why anyone is to blame.

midnightmisssuki · 19/01/2018 19:53

cherryontopp you have some serious anger problems.

Skowvegas · 19/01/2018 19:53

I don't think you realise what our storms are like! In my corner of the UK, last month we had 93mph gusts, compared to your 82mph gusts in October. In 2016 we had winds gusting to over 100mph. We know what storms are like, but fortunately we seem better prepared for our, as the longest our power was off was two hours. That said, there are far fewer houses to restore power to.

That sounds terrible. I don't know how I hadn't heard about it. How many thousands of trees were down?

REBECCAB123 · 19/01/2018 20:04

I agree with you OP it could have waited until a reasonable time of day if necessary at all!

Blackteadrinker77 · 19/01/2018 20:26

A tip for the future, secure your bin if it's expected to be windy.

Problem solved.
