Aibu to think Dh should manage to do an online shop?

I work what is essentially 0 hours/casual , but my hours are steady (at least 30 a week) I've been putting in more hours over the last 6 weeks, at one point doing 2 weeks with only 3 days off, most days I've been out of the house 7am until 9-11pm (depends on finish time) It's been tough but I wanted to help out my team (1 persons left and another is having surgery). The money is good and is increasing our house savings, Dh is doing 4 days a week 8am until 8;30pm which is his standard hours, he has been pitching in more at home. Stuff like cleaning isn't up to my standard but that's alright. He's trying. One thing is he keeps "forgetting" to do any shopping, meaning at the moment the fridge and freezer are empty.
We shop 90% online but visit the local market for fruit and veg.
Aibu to think he should be able to manage an online shop?

I'm doing it today after he's been "too busy" "didn't think about it" "was going to drive to the shops" (nearest supermarket would be about a 5hr round trip in the car; a journey both of us hate doing!)

To add insult to injury the next delivery isn't available until the 27th. As we're so far away from the shops only four slots a week (2x Wednesday and 2x on Saturday) are available. Only one place delivers. So it's going to be a very boring week with mostly dried stuff from the back of the cupboards cobbled together, or I might break and brave the journey. I have to be quite on the ball and book slots in advance by a week to 10 days in advance even if I have to amend my order later (eg I'll add a few random bits, check out then amend a day or two before). If I leave it later than Saturday for a Wednesday slot or Tuesday/Wednesday for a Saturday slot the slots are definitely going to be gone, sometimes sooner which is why I'm so on the ball. He knows this!
I'm slightly fuming...

Snap because I gave lady bits this falls into my job description in his head, also the cooking and providing of meals when he is not at work Hmm I'm waiting for him to start asking me to wipe his arse too.

They bloody suck I'm sorry. I quite like online food shopping it's so easy.

I agreed to double my hours on the understanding he'd pick up some extra things at home.
He hasn't done that, despite saying he would and constant reminders. It's not like I did it and didn't tell him it was expected of him.
He's not exactly getting that much more time off than you - 1 day - and you've said that he's done the cleaning so he has picked up extra at home. You've still had the weekends (or 2 days off) - you've said that on one occasion you only had 3 days off in a fortnight but that's still 3 days. I don't see that you couldn't have managed it just as easily as him, particularly as you've found time to post here.

How are Amazon deliveries near you? Amazon sell food. It isn't a proper shop (unless you live in an area where they're doing the grocery deliveries and it really sounds like you don't) but they do stuff like teabags etc.

In my area I could get some basics like beans and tinned stuff for an okay price and a hamper of fruit and veg that is grossly overpriced, but it might help with the groceries. I don't have any ideas what to do about the husband side of it because he's designated it as your problem and any issues just won't stick in his mind.

good luck

Er, 3 days off over 2 weeks working = 1.5 a week (if you want to scale it down)
He gets 3 days off a week. So whereas I'd had 3 days over 2 weeks he'd had 6 days.
How is that not considerably more? It's double! I often don't get 2 days off, particularly recently and if I do I've been doing 12-14 hour days doing a very physical job work plus driving there and back, getting in and collapsing in bed at midnight after a sandwich to be up again for 5:30am and be out the door for 6:30/7.
And I'll do this in bold for the skin readers who've clearly missed it.
I AM DOING, NOW HAVE DONE, THE ORDER. IM FUCKED OFF THAT HE DIDNT MANAGE IT. I HAVE TIME TO POST BECAUSE I AM NOT WORKING TODAY. INCIDENTALLY THIS IS WHY IM ABLE TO DO THE OTHER

Unfortunately Amazon aren't here at all; you can order some dried foods online but due to our rural location post within Australia takes around 7 working days and then we have to go and collect it, it doesn't come to our door, so by the time I've ordered and found the time to go get it I may as well just wait for the grocery order. Thank you though.

@FuckingBastard89 your DH is BU! It's not hard to do an online shop, especially as he knows the situation with the slots etc, and that if you don't do the order how long the trip would be for you! Bit mean of him IMO.

Also, I can believe that there are places so rural with the closest shops that far away! And there are places where you're close to space! www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.buzzfeed.com/amphtml/simoncrerar/this-place-in-outback-australia-is-closer-to-space-than-its

Mad! It must be lovely sometimes to not have the distractions though Grin

at one point doing 2 weeks with only 3 days off
Yes but as you clearly say, it was only once that you didn't get 2 days off a week (scaled down). The other time (4 weeks) you've had a full 2 days when he's had 3 - he's done the cleaning which is equivalent to you both getting 2 days off. You made a comment about his cleaning standards not being up to yours which was unnecessary - he's done the cleaning to his standards, not left it. It only takes a short while to do an online shop so I still don't see why you couldn't have managed it at some point, even in the time when you only got 3 days off in a fortnight. In my books YABU. You obviously disagree, that's fine, but you posted on AIBU and I've given my view.

Skowvegas · 18/01/2018 14:48

Of course he should be able to do it. No matter what hours you both work, he should be capable of food shopping. It's a basic adult skill.

holdonasecondwaitwhatno · 18/01/2018 14:58

I don't really get it. If you live so far from a supermarket and in rural australia, why do you shop once or even multiple times a week? Why don't you buy 3-4 weeks worth of food and an extra freezer (or 2) instead of being dependent on endless small deliveries? You live 2.5 hours from a shop in the middle of nowhere. You must have the space.

I live 15 min walk from an Aldi and within 20 min drive of a Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, M&S Food, Lidl, endless convenience stores and the aforementioned Aldi. I do fewer shopping trips that you do.

Seems all a bit drama seeking.

And if one person generally does one job, of course the other person won't think to pick it up. YABU.

Goodness.....I was only being friendly because your way of life interested me......

It’s so far removed from my life that I was intrigued.

I don’t actually care. Shop. Don’t shop. I couldn’t give a damn. 🙄🙄

Ha! Killed this thread. #hardass

Of course he should be able to do it. Hand it over to him for a month till you can be confident both adults in the house know how to buy food, but in your next order get a couple of decent frozen meals for one and put them in the freezer labelled fuckings stash for if dp can’t manage the shop.
