To ask for UK holiday recommendations

Where's the best place you've been and why? We've decided to book a week in the UK in the summer as we have a big holiday to South Africa at the end of the year. Have tended to stick to the lake district and Scotland but wouldn't mind somewhere new but I have no idea where to start. Children are 6 and 4 (one has asked for somewhere with rollercoasters and the other wants sharks...), we tend to do a lot of days out from wherever we are based.

Cornwall. Absolutely love it.

Soozikinzii · 17/01/2018 23:15

Cornwall is beautiful lots of beaches and coves so you can do a different one each day , if you get the weather there's nowhere nicer .

treaclesoda · 17/01/2018 23:18

North Wales. Beautiful beaches, mountains, castles, gardens, stately homes, it's all there.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 17/01/2018 23:22

Northumberland is much under rated.

MazDazzle · 17/01/2018 23:23

Sands Resort, Cornwall.

Crieff Hydro, Scotland.

PurpleRobe · 17/01/2018 23:24

Northumberland is our Favourite .uk destination. It is so beautiful and unspoilt. Not very touristy

Not sure if there's much for kids though. We did lots of walks and sight seeing like castles and ruins etc

MinnieMousse · 17/01/2018 23:27

Cornwall is beautiful but the traffic in summer is terrible and it takes forever to get there if you live in the North or East.

I like Dorset. Lots to do for children, lovely beaches, good walks. The Isle of Wight is also good for similar reasons.

superram · 17/01/2018 23:40

Whitstable in Kent. No sharks or fun fairs but amazing crabbing , restaurants and pubs.

dailyfailuselessrag · 17/01/2018 23:42

Gower Wink

ColinsVeryJolly · 17/01/2018 23:43

Butlins! Amazing for kids, they'll have the time of their lives.

venys · 17/01/2018 23:44

We had a good time in Staffordshire near Alton Towers..kids same age. Surprisingly quite a bit to do. No sharks as far as I know though but there were monkeys at Monkey World?!?

IbbleObbleOut · 17/01/2018 23:47

Dorset for me. Much prefer it to Cornwall. Or tenby/saundersfoot coast area.

kitnkaboodle · 17/01/2018 23:48

Pembrokeshire. Just as lovely as Cornwall - about half the number of visitors

Eltonjohnssyrup · 17/01/2018 23:51

Broadstairs. More affordable than Whitstable and I think nicer. It gets some of the best weather in England and is very sheltered. Cornwall has worse weather and in the touristy areas a lot of people are second home owners who are a bit of a pain in the arse.

From Broadstairs you can do loads of trips out, Margate (Turner gallery, old town and dreamland), Dover Castle, Sandwich, Whitstable (lovely food), Deal. You can even have a day out in London easily from there. There are places like Diggerland in easy reach too.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 17/01/2018 23:51

Oh agree with poster above about Dorset too. And the New Forest is wonderful with loads to do.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/01/2018 23:52

Croyde Bay in North Devon.

Fruitbat1980 · 18/01/2018 00:01

Another one for Crieff hydro here. We were seriously impressed.
But also a vote for Cornwall. If nothing else then for the cream teas!

MagicWillHappen · 18/01/2018 00:24

Look at Bluestone in S Wales.

Kind of like Centre Parcs only cheaper and nicer (IMO). No sharks but it's right next door to Oakwood Park (theme park great for young ones) and Folly Farm...no sharks but all farm animals plus lions and giraffes.

Dscarl07 · 18/01/2018 00:29

Flamingo Land. Been going there for years as a big family break. It’s got rides and roller coasters along with a zoo. Arcades and entertainment for the evenings. Great as a little break.
