Exam or holiday?

You would think exam, right? I definitely would. Or so I thought.

DD (20) has been trying to pass her GCSE English for four years now but her ASD makes it very difficult for her. She has made progress though, up from an E to a 3 last year (15 marks from a 4) to a 3 in her Nov resit - just 1 Mark from a 4. Her teacher has sent it off for a remark so fingers firmly crossed.

However, since starting back at college in September the plan has always been that if she didn’t pass the resit then she would stop her GCSE and do functional skills instead. This is to reduce the stress that she is feeling trying to pass it. We were both happy with that plan.

After getting DD to check with college that that still was the plan and she definitely wasn’t doing any exams in June, I’ve booked a holiday. Non refundable.

DD has come home today telling me that now college are saying that if the remark doesn’t bump her up to a 4, then she’s not doing functional skills (which she would be sitting in the next month or so) but rather the exams in June. That we will be in France for Sad

Apparently her lecturer is phoning me tomorrow to sort it out, but I can’t see how it can be? DD can’t be left at home on her own while I’m away with DD2, she can’t sit the GCSE on a different day (she doesn’t want to do it anyway as she’s been preparing for functional skills exam) and I can’t cancel my holiday without losing a lot of money (first holiday in two years)

AIBU to insist that we stick to the original plan and do the functional skills exam?

Sounds reasonable to me but you need to talk to the tutor and find out what's happened to change the plan and why.
