Cutting down on plastic in the bathroom

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/01/2018 18:04

This is my NY resolution as we seem to have so many plastic bottles in the bathroom. I'm trying to switch us back to bars of hard soup (very 70s) for hand washing - Joseph do a nice soap dish on an angle, so the soap doesn't sit in its own puddle and get soggy and gross, and I'd like to find some nice, giant-sized shampoo, conditioner and shower gels - say 1000 ml. - or bigger still if they are refillable. Does anyone know of any business doing refillable toiletries or have other good ideas? My other idea is that I'm trying to encourage everyone to use cotton hankies instead of tissues but I'm facing a teen revolt over this.

Depends...how would you get the new bottle? Wouldn't drive to a shop, or have someone drive to you to deliver it?

‘JASON’ do large bottles of organic bath wash.

I recommended this deodorant on the other long thread... (I don't work for them. It's jus amazing stuff and lasts for ages)!

Apologies for the lack of clicky link:

Oh! It clicks!

Apologies it's not a fancy link then. Grin

"If you're already in the car and going that way then how is it counterproductive?

Or is it easier just to throw your hands in the air and bemoan how impossible it is to make anything better in this world rather than just trying a little bit each day?"

I wouldn't already be in a car, would I?
If I followed these guidelines, I'd need to use car/taxi or at least a bus and would be LESS green. Same thing for anyone who walks or cycles to the shops.

Spartaca · 20/01/2018 11:28

But unless you get home delivery (using a van) you have to go to the shops anyway to buy your replacement bottle,so how is taking an empty one to fill up any harder?

Gwenhwyfar · 23/01/2018 23:24

More things to carry Spartaca. My handbag, which is actually a rucksack, is full enough already. I don't want empty bottles as well and if you have to buy things in big bottles, that will drive walkers to use their car.

@Figmentofmyimagination
Crystal deodorant-
www.bodykind.com/product/9254-salt-of-the-earth-classic-crystal-deodorant-90g.aspx?Referer=Froogle_Salt-of-the-Earth-Classic-Crystal-Deodorant-90g&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=price%20comparison&utm_campaign=Salt-of-the-Earth-Classic-Crystal-Deodorant-90g&gclid=CjwKCAiA15vTBRAHEiwA7Snfc4lDePCSjGH3f-nxyKn9VfJcAH0UQ_ZYjFdkQoIEysMT3LxFvV9tKRoCkI8QAvD_BwE

You just run it under a bit of water (making sure not to drop the crystal stone bit and smash it in the sink) and apply. I've not found anything more effective. Most of my friends swear by it too.

Lasts a very long time too.
