My 9 YEAR OLD HAS HIS FIRST EVER PLAY DATE!

AIBU to shout this from the roof tops?!

My 9 year old has been invited to go on his FIRST ever play date today and I am so pleased for him!!

My DS has autism and a whole range of other health issues and doesn't really have any " friends" and because of this he has never ever had a play date .. until today!

He has been invited to go around someone's house today for a play and tea ... he went off today with his supplies ( very very fussy so packed him off with his usual custard and salt and vinegar crisps!) and he is so excited and proud of himself 🙈

I am over the moon for him and so happy he finally has a friend and is going on a play date!

Hopefully this is just the start of some amazing things to come ... StarStarStarStar!!!!!!

Please try and keep in mind next time you have a birthday party / arranging a play date think of the quiet children in your DS/DD class ... my son is 9 and is non verbal and has only just been invited on his first ever play date and has still NEVER been invited to a birthday party ... ( even though we always invite children around here Smile)

So proud of my little man!

Awwww, I have a tear in my eye. It's so horrible that exclusion starts at such a young age. I hope your DS has a wonderful time.

How lovely for him. 😇

BLUESEAPARADISE · 17/01/2018 16:29

Thankyou so much everyone I am that Mum who is checking her phone every 5 seconds for any possible updates / messages!! 🙈 feels so strange to not have him home with me!

I did get one message from his friends Mum saying my DS got slightly confused going back to her house and was unsure going into their house but she managed to reassure him and win him over by putting the washing machine on and allowing him to sit in front of the machine with his feet on the door ( to feel the vibrations!) whilst eating a pot of custard!

I am 99% sure this is where he will spend most ( if not all ) of the play date but hey he is happy ( and so is everyone else!)!and also helping his mum out with the washing! Lol

Play date mum sounds awesome!
OP I could actually cry for you, it’s such a big deal to find someone who accepts your child and tries to find ways to reassure and help them. I’ve refreshed this page so many times!

10FingersOnTheFender · 17/01/2018 16:32

That's so heartwarming! I hope he really enjoys himself.

One thing though - custard and salt and vinegar crisps?? Grin

misscheery · 17/01/2018 16:34

Yay, OP! I organised my DN birthday party and she invited a little boy who is in her class and has autism. I loved him instantly, so bubbly, adorable and smart. So happy for you and your son! ❤️
