Am I being Unreasonable to not want to visit my Mum with Shingles (I'm Pregnant)

My poor Mum has Shingles!

I'm 27 weeks and had the Chicken Pox as a baby. DH and I are due to go and visit this weekend and drop off our little 7 month old Shih-Poo puppy for the night (Mum and the Puppy love each other and they cuddle the whole time they are together!) She still want's to babysit Little Puppy because she loves her so much!

Anyway. Shingles just screams red light to me and I'm finding conflicting info on google.

If anyone could answer: Should I avoid my Mum or is it safe for me and the baby to visit?

Do you think it will be play for her to still babysit the Puppy or too risky... Only because, the next day if I go to pick up/cuddle the puppy after Mum has... cross contamination?

Also, If I do avoid, how long should I wait until she is better to visit?

Poor old Mum! Bless her!!

My understanding of shingles.is that you can only catch chicken pox from.them. - a woman in my office sat next to me.when i was pregnant with ds and she had them.- NHS advice was it wasnt a problem.if i had already had chicken pox and i was fine.

Ok. I had shingles when 20 weeks. It was pretty shit.

I spoke to the dr about whether I could pass it on to anyone else and was told that unless my blisters we weeping and I forced someone to touch them then no.

So unless your Mum is going to run her blisters on the puppy IMO you would be fine. Just don’t touch/lick the blisters.

You can only catch chicken pox from shingles if you have never had chicken pox before. You don't catch shingles from shingles.
Perfectly safe to visit your mum as you can't catch anything from her shingles.

As general advice your mother should cover the shingles if possible and wash her hands before going she is in contact with people.

That is possibly the cutest dog I've ever seen.

Sorry for the derail Grin

My mum had shingles when I was pregnant with DD2. She asked her doc and I asked my midwife if there was a problem and both said no, because I was already immune to chicken pox and there were no weeping blisters that I would touch.

If you only had chicken pox as a baby, you CAN get it again. People who got it very young are often prone to another bout later on.
