To think I can’t lose weight

withit18 · 16/01/2018 21:53

I just don’t have the willpower.

And I’m shit.

I’ve done it before, but now my willpower has gone, have 5 stone to lose and can’t get past the first 7lbs.

Such lovely positive posts from people who have done it!

Same boat here OP. Something that worked for me was the Blood Sugar Diet, there are threads about it here.

I don't know about it addressing the psychological problems of binge eating, but it kicks the cravings, and importantly makes you FEEL amazing. Energy, sleep etc. Also the quick losses it gives you make you motivated.

The only reason I fell off was because of a bloody stomach bug where I threw up for three days straight.

I'm going to try again.

withit18 · 17/01/2018 16:47

I’m not convinced anything will work. It is far more complex than people are making out, and yes, some of you have done it, so have I, I have lost weight before, but right now I can’t, and I don’t think I will. And it makes me feel desperately unhappy.

I'm right with you at the moment. And I don't know what the solution is I really don't

Wow Stevie and OurMiracle!

Allabitmuchisntit · 17/01/2018 16:55

I’ve got four stone to get rid of. But I’m not thinking about it in those terms. I’m just giving more thought to what I shove in my face. Was doing a lot of comfort eating and mindlessly eating way too much. Now no high cal snacking and eating less of what I had before. You can make lots of tiny changes that you won’t really miss. Don’t ban yourself from anything! Oh and ‘diet’ foods are bullshit.

derangedmermaid · 17/01/2018 16:58

So maybe you need to just take little steps. Literally.

Cut out sugar for sweetners. I only realised last week that we've been a sugar free household for 6 months now. It's mad, totally didn't realise!

Going to red milk? You really get used to it after a couple of weeks.

Exercise more. Even if it's a walk around the block every evening. Little things.

Could a gym membership help? It only costs me £18 for my 6 month membership and once it becomes a routine you'll find yourself looking forward to it?

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2018 16:58

withit18. Stop dieting right now. It's just making you miserable.
You need to start liking yourself first.

Could you keep a food diary? Could you skip late night eating? Cut out sweets, biscuits, cakes and crisps?

I lost the four stones using the Blood Sugar diet. I felt compelled to say I felt amazing on it. It made me lose weight, I felt no different even though my measurements changed. I didn't look different to me. And even losing the weight did not give me the motivation to continue. I feel awful about what I'm doing to my body. I hate myself and I need to shop my children a better model of healthy eating.
I completely understand how you feel. And all the positive stories of other people don't help. They just make you feel even more useless and a failure. No disrespect to those that have, you've all worked hard and have done great but when you have no motivation even though you desperately want to do it you cannot help but feel at your wits end.

EnormousDormouse · 17/01/2018 17:01

I lost nearly 5 stone low carbing after years of failed 'healthy eating'. A couple have crept back on and I've had a few months of eating whatever I fancy - hence all my clothes don't fit and I look like a sack of potatoes. I haven't been in the right headspace to do anything about it but this week it has just clicked and I'm now back on it. Think it's a combination of knowing I will be making myself healthier and seeing myself in reflections looking like a massive old matronly lump.
For me it's all about headspace and thinking about abetter way of eating rather than a 'diet'. Plus low carbing allows me cheese and cream and other deliciousness.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 17/01/2018 17:07

Join team rh on Facebook or follow team rh fitness and Richie howey first to see if you want to sign up. Best thing I done. You don't cut carbs and you don't reduce your cals so low you end up binging.

I use to lose weight easily then for last two years kept failing New diets within a day or so. Since joining team rh my mindset has changed because you can eat what you like if it fits your macros so it's not like a diet at all.

EnormousDormouse · 17/01/2018 17:10

I can't imagine how it is for people who maintain a healthy weight without all the angst and mental energy it takes me (and many others)

raisedbyguineapigs · 17/01/2018 17:15

Ive just downloaded a hypnosis app. I dont know if it will work, but its quite a nice relaxation thing before bed. According to the reviews, it really helps people with motivation. They are quite cheap.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 17/01/2018 17:16

It will work you are just making excuses and are feeling full of self pity. That won't get you anywhere. You need to work out what calories you are burning with a fitbit for a week then divide the total burnt by 7 to get the average you burn each day. Deduct 500-800 from that and thats the total calories to eat each day. Set it in myfitness pal and track every single thing you eat. Up your water intake and you will lose weight.

But nobody can make you stick to it or want it. Only you. If you can't commit to it then get out of the diet cycle you are in because you are making yourself miserable when your whole purpose of wanting to lose weight is to feel better about yourself.

withit18 · 17/01/2018 17:22

I never have milk, or sugar, until nine o clock comes and then I have a lot. Anyway thanks for advice. There’s nothing much anybody can do it’s just how it is. It’s not self pity fucksake tbh. I lie awake at night stressed about it but don’t stop.

I hear you. I couldn't get started last year and gained another stone. So for January iv cut out sugar (so most processed foods, bread etc out). Sticking to 3 meals with no snacks and small portions of good carbs if any. I'm loving eating things I wouldn't have allowed myself on low fat diet. I'm planning very different meals which I'm looking forward to eating. Drinking water. Haven't weighed myself but stomach is looking smaller.

derangedmermaid · 17/01/2018 17:26

@withit18

It probably is a lot of self pity. Which is fine. But at some point you either stop that and face up to the fact that you'll have to change your habits or accept you're stuck with the extra weight.

Is there any way you can spare a hour a day to go to the gym?

If you're having a lot of sugar and milk then stopping that should make a huge difference to kickstart things

DavetheCat2001 · 17/01/2018 18:08

@withit18 have you thought about posting in the Weight Loss Chat section here instead?

It's very supportive and there are sub-boards which cover Low Carb diets/Weight Watchers etc..or just to have a general chat and get support from other folk going through similar?

Good luck x

Espress0Patronum · 17/01/2018 18:54

I completely sympathies OP, and I know from myself when you feel this way there’s nothing anybody can say to make you feel more positive about it, and all you want to do is scream “ITS NOT BLOODY FAIR”, especially when it feels like all the thin people you know can eat 5 loaves of bread, 3 whole chickens, a dozen doughnuts and was it down with a bottle of wine and not gain any weight Grin

I’ve lost 8 stone and still have 3 more to go, but I’ve been plateauing for the last year, it’s fucking frustrating and hard to feel motivated - complete viscous cycle.

Be kind to yourself, set small achievable goals at first and make gradual changes. Defiantly helps if you can rope a few friends in with you so yeh can all support eachother and have a good bitch and Moan Flowers

Espress0Patronum · 17/01/2018 18:55
