Well peed off. I'm blonde. I was born blonde and will stay blonde until I go white. Why do people (both male and female) think it's ok to make derogatory comments regarding my intelligence based on the colour of my hair. I used to play along or ignore it but as I've got older it really irks. Today I was accused of having 'a blonde moment' as I forgot something.

Any other blondes feel the same?

Bogmoppit · 16/01/2018 20:13

I've had people tell me I dye my hair. It is one colour on top. Underneath at the back it is a different colour.
I don't dye it. But I had a colleague refuse to believe it. He just kept saying I did. Im always surprised how many stupid people judge personality by hair colour.

AthenaAshton · 16/01/2018 20:24

WipsGlitter Blimey. Yes, some real live adults are blonde. I am one of them, though had never realised it was an issue for other people. As I say: Blimey.

Tinkerbec · 16/01/2018 20:28

Not even bothered in the slightest.

halfwitpicker · 16/01/2018 20:29

I'm blonde.

Someone said about me today 'isn't she sweet?'

I'm 35 Hmm

happy2bhomely · 16/01/2018 20:30

I have natural light blonde hair as an adult. I can't say I feel the same.

Lots of people comment on my hair and ask if it's natural etc. No one has ever made a dumb blonde comment to me except my MIL. It is done playfully as she is well aware I'm smarter than her!

All 5 of my dc are blonde too. Lots of people comment but always positively.

In primary school, I was nicknamed Blondie. I went to a very multicultural school so was one of maybe 10 blondes out of around 500 children.

I've always been told how lucky I am.

AthenaAshton · 16/01/2018 20:34

My DC vary between very dark (hair) and kind of mousey. I am blonde. DH has dark brown hair. So what?

bingbongnoise · 16/01/2018 20:34

Blonde here. (Natural.)

Never been treated thick or dim because of it.

Maybe it depends what environment you are in. And the intelligence of the people. I have always been in a professional environment with smart, educated people.

This isn't me

Sorry, posting from a bloody tablet!

MrsShadenfreud, another redhead here, sick to death of the ginger-minge crap. Grown men used to shout that at me from my early teens, sick. And then when I was almost 40 some little boys yelled it at me from across the streetConfused.

cantucciniamaretto

No. I've never had anyone say anything about my intelligence based on the colour of my hair. But then as I don't live in a comic or the 1970's I don't see why they would.

me too
and I say I'm having a blonde moment.... it's not a male/female thing

I think that has to be one of the stupid things I have ever heard. What fucking colour do they THINK your pubic hair will be. Idiotic twats. Hmm

Reminds me a bit of when I was younger, and men used to ask me if it turned me on when I inserted a tampon! PMSL. How dumb does a man have to be to think inserting a tampon will arouse a woman? Daft cunt! Grin

Totally off topic sorry. The 'have you got a ginger minge' thing just reminded me of it, as it's equally as stupid!

CinnamonBlockage · 16/01/2018 20:54

I just find it so tiresome. I too work in a professionally environment with smart intelligent people but haven't personally seen the correlation between intelligence and non-derogatory comments.

I also find the 'are you a natural blonde' question a bit odd. I wouldn't ask a brunette if they were a natural brunette....

You must have a temper
You’ve got red hair - fiery temper
Ohhhh watch or what you say, she’s a fiery red head
Red heads are so bad tempered

👊🏻Ouch...

Shockers · 16/01/2018 23:10

Nice hair; do your collar and cuffs match?

Said by a friend of my boyfriend when boyfriend was getting the drinks in.

touchTypist · 17/01/2018 01:48

@Sarahjconnor

Why such different treatment? To keep the men in their place?

Gladiola44 · 17/01/2018 02:10

Because most blondes are natural brunettes who have dyed their hair, so you can safely assume brunettes are natural. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe about 2% of the population are natural blondes. 1% redhead. That leaves 97% with dark hair so surely it’s a reasonable (though personal) question to ask.

Your whole post sounds like a stealth boast to me. Men love blondes, and natural blonde hair is beautiful and unusual. But surely you know that.

AngeloMysterioso · 17/01/2018 02:53

It’s the same as any stereotype. I’m originally from Essex so I’ve had all sorts of Essex girl-related comments thrown my way. TOWIE certainly hasn’t helped.

Confused

You aren't even being sarcastic, are you?

MadamMinacious · 17/01/2018 09:23

Are you really blonde though?? I don't know anyone who is blonde beyond childhood they all dye their hair. Most are dirty Fair or mouse.

I have a friend who is naturally REALLY blonde, her hair is very light - she doesn't dye it at all. It's so blonde, all of her children are very blonde too. So some people clearly can remain blonde (she is in her early 30s btw). For the record she is very intelligent and funny and fantastic.

I don't understand how people can swallow stereotypes about hair colour it's clearly a nonsense. As if hair colour affects your personality! Then again people swallow all sorts of harmful stereotypes; race, gender, class. I think it's a symptom of not being able to think critically and just accepting what they are told.

So OP, with your lovely hair Smile, it must be very frustrating but they show themselves up to be foolish when they make those comments.

MadamMinacious · 17/01/2018 09:27

PS: Redheads, I for one LOVE your hair. No negativity from me.

I don't comment negatively on appearance anyway but I do adore red hair. My hair was red when I was a child, actually that's wishful thinking - it was strawberry blonde, more strawberry and I STILL got called Duracell - so original. I wish it was still a beautiful red.

ThisLittleKitty · 17/01/2018 09:30

I have a friend who referred to herself as "having a white girl moment" the other day. What does that even mean Confused
