To still have my Christmas tree up?

I love it, with the twinkling fairy lights and decorations. I only took the wreath off the door yesterday, but the tree and decorations are still up - although all the chocolate tree decorations were eaten a long time ago.

Och, leave it up all year if you like.

ThisLittleKitty · 16/01/2018 12:47

Mine is still up ha thought it was just me! No lights though as don't want the neighbours to see it lol

crunchymint · 16/01/2018 12:48

Mari50 I can't. It is a real tree and at some point the needles will drop off.

Crunchy sometimes I have had mine up till February. It came down new years day. But good on the you. It can feel too harsh sometimes and I quite like the miss havisham look Grin

MardAsSnails · 16/01/2018 12:51

Mine only got taken down on Saturday. That was laziness though, not a love of twinkly lights.

Eminybob · 16/01/2018 12:53

Yabu! Get it down.

I couldn’t bear the thought of mine still being up. I took it down before new year. That was mainly because of space though to be fair so if you have the room for it I guess it’s not too bad.

TheQueenOfWands · 16/01/2018 12:54

Mine was down on Boxing Day but it's totally up to the individual.

If you want it up then keep it up!

KurriKurri · 16/01/2018 12:57

I was glad to get rid of mine - the dog developed an obsession with trying to eat the pine needles, I spent most of Christmas hoiking them out of his mouth.

But you can do whatever you like, if you aren't bothered by the superstition about 12th night.
Once the needles start falling off it will all start to look a bit Miss Haversham though - maybe get an old wedding dress to wear as well Grin

alittlebitcountry · 16/01/2018 13:02

I paid lip service to 12th night by taking all the baubles and tinsel off, but haven't had time to take down the tree and lights since so I'm making the most of it. The small boy is determined to keep his tiny tree up all year.

juliesaway · 16/01/2018 13:07

Should be down by 12th night or you’ll have a year’s bad luck.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/01/2018 13:09

ds insisted we took it down.

FakePlantsOnly · 16/01/2018 13:11

Our real one is still up because we're waiting for the needles to drop in the flat so that we don't drop them all round the building when taking it out. To each their own

crunchymint · 16/01/2018 13:14

I only took the wreath off the door because the needles on that were all falling off. And we have the space so that isn't an issue. Might take the Christmas cards down tonight though, I am not bothered about them.

And got this wedding dress on order for later in the year.

The tree came down yesterday - but only because you couldn't breathe near it without more needles falling off. By the time I had taken the decs and lights off it was nude and filled the hoover twice over Grin

crunchymint · 16/01/2018 13:36
Grin Yes I am amazed my tree has lasted so well. The end of the branches are looking droopy, but very little needle drop.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 16/01/2018 13:39

I reluctantly undecorated the tree and put it outside on the 6th Jan but I've left the fairy lights up. I've renamed them winter lights and plan to keep them in place until the end of January or when the days are noticeably longer and I can feel like spring is on it's way.

xkatie27x · 16/01/2018 13:41

YANBU! I took mine down but I keep fairy lights up through the year anyway Grin

Anymajordude · 16/01/2018 13:42

I got my tree down Jan 1st but kept some lights up to be cheerful.

thethoughtfox · 16/01/2018 13:49

I took the tree down but left light up over the mantlepiece and will keep them there till spring.

Oldraver · 16/01/2018 13:52

I will confess to once having mine up until April..I was too busy at the time to take it down on 12th night then after that it just didnt seem to matter. I only took it down as we were having American exchange students

BrutusMcDogface · 16/01/2018 13:55

What!? One of my neighbours still has theirs up, complete with coloured fairy lights, and I think they're mad! I thought they must be the only ones, until I read this thread!

crunchymint · 16/01/2018 13:55

Unless I am your neighbour.

letsdolunch321 · 16/01/2018 13:57

Stunning dress op Grin

BrutusMcDogface · 16/01/2018 14:08

The thought did cross my mind, crunchy! But there are more of you on this thread!! Madness, I tell you.

UsernameInvalid66 · 16/01/2018 15:44

Should be down by 12th night or you’ll have a year’s bad luck.

Does anyone really believe that?

Personally I can't wait to get mine down as soon as possible but if you want some historical justification for leaving it up longer, I believe it is technically "Christmastide" until Candlemas (2 February).
