To put an egg in porridge?

I'm on weight watchers and eggs have no points and are very filling. Would it be weird to add an egg to a fruity porridge.
AIBWeird?
Does anyone do this?

Ewww why? Surely the hot porridge will kind of scrammble the egg? 😷

Just eat porridge then eat 2 hard boiled eggs?

You can make nice pancakes with yogurt, oats and eggs. Mix the yogurt and oat and leave overnight. Next morning combine with a couple of beaten eggs.

You can add a tsp of baking powder if you want fluffy pancakes, cinnamon for flavour and artificial sweetener if you use it, which I don't and find the plain pancakes OK with berries.

My favourite porridge breakfast: Not long before porridge is done, dump in some raisins. Very shortly before it's done, crack an egg into the pot, stir, cook just until egg begins to set, throw in toasted sunflower seeds, and take off fire immediately. (I like my porridge v.thick, so perhaps this wouldn't work well with the more watery sort.) Not sure why you're bothered that someone might find your idea weird--? it's not as if you're contemplating eating a tree stump or snacking on a human arm, after all.

My DH does this. He poaches the egg first, then plops it on op of the porridge. He says it’s delicious. I can’t even be in the same room while this is going on.

NoCanoe · 17/01/2018 07:55

This just seems so wrong.....I've actually cringed shivered.

But I await the update! Confused

SparklyMagpie · 17/01/2018 08:05

Completely just turned my stomach at the though of that

Why would anyone do that!?!?!

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2018 08:19

That made me feel a bit sick.

Crunchymum · 17/01/2018 08:23

Am dying to know if the OP tried it????

Battleax · 17/01/2018 08:26

Like oatmeal custard?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/01/2018 08:35

I'm sat here trying to imagine it. Too much gloop surely. And the taste? Nope can't see it being nice. I like porridge with berries and honey. Can't see how an egg would work.

But you might like it?

fishonabicycle · 17/01/2018 08:56

Why not just try it - if you like it - it's good! Who cares what anyone else thinks.

SpoonfulOfJam · 17/01/2018 09:03

I say go for it. I initially thought a hard boiled egg in the porridge, worth a try. But whisked in, all custardy sounds much better. I'm a fan of eggs. So versatile. In fact, I think I'm going to try this.

KindergartenKop · 18/01/2018 16:55

Not yet because I have been able to 'afford' the points for the oats. I've been having too much pasta for dinner Hmm

And I was hoping to create a custardy delight. Maybe with bananas?

Have a look at this - the 4th recipe includes an egg with porridge. I'm contemplating trying a few of these over the weekend.

Yuui · 18/08/2021 08:17

@KindergartenKop

1 cup (as in a standard size mug) of oats
1 egg
4 cups of milk (I use whole, but skimmed or semi-skimmed can work, whatever floats your boat)
1 cup water
A capful of vanilla essence
A pinch of ground cloves
A couple of shakes (or to taste) or cinnamon and nutmeg

Combine all of the ingredients cold in the saucepan with a whisk
Then put on the stove on and cook on medium (or on low for longer if you're not able to babysit it), stirring continuously to minimise sticking
It will seem like it's not doing anything for a while and then suddenly thicken up, thickening further as it cools

This recipe makes two portions
