To ask that the family turn bl@@dy lights off

Mrsjellybum · 15/01/2018 20:38

Am I the only one in this house that turns lights off.
6 lights I've just turned off.
Now I have 2 under 6 yrs old so be completely peeved at them but like I say your old enough to turn them on so turn them off.

The hubby (grrr) goes to the loo, leaves the light on.
Goes outside for a cigarette and leaves the front porch light on. I feel like the ruddy light police
Angry

I don't mean to write to be completely peeved at them.
I meant so can't really be peeved at them but.

We went through a stage of taking bulbs out!!

Believeitornot · 15/01/2018 20:50

My two couldn’t reach the light switches at that young age and were scared of the dark so wouldn’t?

gamerchick · 15/01/2018 20:52

Heh I’ve just had the same rant half an hour ago. I’m going to deploy the camping lanterns if they don’t pack it in.

Ticklemybunnyphone · 15/01/2018 20:55

The three men in my house are obviously scared of the dark. (30, 34 and 64 years old)

LittleRen · 15/01/2018 20:56

Hahahah I just had yet another dig at my husband for leaving the three kitchen lights on, 3x60 watt bulbs. I have a think against ‘big lights’ anyway and prefer to have the under cupboard lights on in the kitchen and lamps in the other rooms... so not only does it give me the rage because I hate bright lights I also think it’s such a waste, especially as I am not yet an LED convert!!

Bluelady · 15/01/2018 20:56

I walk around the house behind the old man switching lights off in every room. I'm turning into my dad! No idea why it bothers me when he pays the electricity bill.

Kittenswithattitudeandchickens · 15/01/2018 20:56

I had enough lights left on when just my teenager lived with us....... now my step son lives here too it’s like Blackpool Illuminations and we have a 3 storey house. Drives me bloody nuts!

VeganIan · 15/01/2018 21:02

Get some Lombex bulbs and/or TP link smart plugs - sit somewhere else, not even in the house and turn all the buggering lights off Grin

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 15/01/2018 21:02

I had a rant, and replaced everything with LED bulbs after doing some sums - so at least now when they leave the kitchen light on, it's 11 watts, not 100.

I have a little stack of wifi switches from bangood in my basket that I'm going to fit at some point, so I have the power to make the whole house dark from my mobile phone.

I have this issue with cupboard doors. Why can't they close cupboard doors? Why?!

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 15/01/2018 21:02

Mine are older, but under 10. I tell them this:
Every time you leave a light on, a dolphin dies.

Kursk · 15/01/2018 21:02

I viewed a house once, by the front door there was a switch panel that showed you which lights were on in every room. You could turn lights on and off from that panel. It was amazing.

CurlsandCurves · 15/01/2018 21:03

My 12 year old is a nightmare for this.

Returned home the other week, he had already got home from school and let himself in....

Hall, kitchen, living room, conservatory, upstairs landing, his room, our room, our ensure lights all on.

Now whenever he leaves a room I am there stalking him and shout ‘LIGHT!’ at the top of my voice if he leaves it on. Not sure if it will help but it makes me feel better.

Mrsjellybum · 15/01/2018 21:21

@VeganIan they sound amazing. *runs off to amazon

Same thing with my husband, too. Lights left on, cupboards left open, drawers left pulled out. It does sometimes get annoying, but I console myself with the explanation that these slightly irritating traits probably go hand-in-hand with his happy-go-lucky, laid-back personality-- which I love about him. I, on the other hand, while much less likely to forget to close drawers, am more prone to stressing and moodiness... We balance one another out. Smile

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 15/01/2018 21:32

We sometimes mix it up with a polar bear. Not entirely sure thdy believe us, but they sure as well trot it out if daddy leaves a light on.Grin

Koalablue · 15/01/2018 23:23

When my kids were younger i used to fine them if they left a light on. It was only twenty cents but they soon learned.

CheshireChat · 15/01/2018 23:36

I rarely forget lights, but I forget cupboard doors all the time and then I pretend I'm a poltergeist when DP gets (mildly) exasperated.

However I admit both habits are very annoying.

Parsleyisntfood · 15/01/2018 23:40

See I have the opposite problem, everyone will sit in a room in near darkness. I have been heard to shout “we are not mole people, put a light on”. We have low level strip lights in the hall and apparently that’s all anyone needs ever.

bettycat81 · 15/01/2018 23:45

I'm tempted to buy motion sensor bulbs for some rooms in our house....

BackforGood · 15/01/2018 23:55

Wait until they are teens.........
