To think I can get a wedding dress to fit at 7 months pregnant?

We’ve decided to move our wedding as we were due to get married what is now three weeks after my EDD. Didn’t really fancy getting married whilst still in mesh pants, with leaking boobs, and a potentially just week old baby. However, I will now be somewhere between 28-34 weeks pregnant when we get married (dependent upon church availability confirmation) so potentially fairly massive. I’ve looked at maternity wedding dresses online and they are all fairly dull and bizarrely VERY white!

AIBU to think that I should be able to get a dress altered to fit around my bump provided I go up a few sizes and have it altered by a good seamstress? I’m not keen on corsets or anything very structured so am hoping this won’t be a problem. Has anyone done this successfully?

Yes, I did this at 6 months pregnant. I was advised to go for and went for an empire line dress, it looked great. I’m sure you will look amazing!

Yes you can, try Tiffany Rose, they have beautiful maternity wedding gowns

MrTrebus · 15/01/2018 19:17

They make wedding dresses up to size 30+ so yeah you'll be fine just get good alterations and you'll be grand. Congrats!

You absolutely can. The only thing I would caution is going to a shop where they have seamstresses on site - who can come down an look at you in any samples and tell you what can or can't be done. And also bearing in mind timescales for ordering and then for alterations you may want to get a crack on with looking depending on how far gone you are right now Grin

I once had a bride who unexpectedly fell pregnant (after many years of trying) and we were able to speak to the designer to change the size ordered and alter to fit her at 7 months - she looked gorgeous!

Congratulations!

(and if you are around Bracknell area PM me, I'd love to try and help Grin )

I'll be getting married at 34 weeks pregnant. I'm probably going to choose a maternity dress from Tiffany Rose. I'm going for colour so haven't paid much attention to white/ivory, but there's definitely some lovely dresses!

I bought mine at Seraphine on Marylebone High Street - got married also at 7 months preggers. It was a little short white lace lined dress...sixties style. I also looked at tiffany rose but when their dress turned up I didn't like it...

YANBU
slightly different but I was a bridesmaid at 9 Months preg. Get a really good, nice, understanding seamstress.

I second Seraphine for great maternity dresses. Only seen their wedding dresses on the website but I had other dresses of theirs and they were fantastic.

I was six months pregnant when I got married. I ordered a maternity wedding dress but wasn't feeling it, so bought a normal wedding dress three sizes too big and had it altered to fit.

This old chestnut came to mind.

Hope you find something, and congrats on both baby and wedding

I'm getting married at 22 weeks with twins. None of the shops I went to were worried about it, they were more frazzled by how soon the wedding was. You'll be fine.

wonkylegs · 15/01/2018 20:29

My SIL got married at a rather huge 8mths and looked lovely in a pale pink empire line dress she looked great.
Good luck and enjoy finding a fabulous dress!

I married at 7.5 months pregnant, and the dress I had was from eBay and fitted beautifully. If you're in the range of a size 10, possibly up to a 12, you are welcome to have it. It's an Ivory sort of colour with lovely beaded detail on it.

Unescorted · 15/01/2018 20:38

Mine had a separate silk skirt and bodice in contrasting colour. That way the bodice could be easily altered down the side seam and he skirt waist line sat under the bump so didn't need altering. DD had a habit of one day laying so it was difficult to tell I was pregnant and others pretending she was a bloke on a train so I looked huge.

Thanks all. Went into a shop today, realised I really don’t particularly like wedding dresses 😂

Ended up buying a stretchy bridesmaids dress in the sale that I can add a pretty overskirt and some nice accessories to. Comfortable, guaranteed to fit and a lot more ‘me’ than something OTT and lacy.

Good work OP get what you like! I rejected every pouffy wedding dress I was put in. Still got a white dress in the end but the kind I like!
