Broken tooth Hysteria!

Christmastits · 15/01/2018 17:06

So I fell down the stairs last week and smashed my face into the bottom banister, apart from a bit of bruising there wasn't a lot of pain or anything so I thought I'd got away with it.

Until last night, when my tooth basically fell out, but not all of it, just 50% and the it looks rancid. I hate the dentist and I think I fractured it when i fell last week?

Anyway, I've managed to get an emergency out of hours dentist appointment tonight, and I'm scaring myself now, will they remove it? Will they put a crown on it? Will it hurt? It's not hurting at the moment but a lot of pus came out when it broke.

Can an emergency dentist even help? Or will they just remove it and tell me t wait for an appointment at my dentist which will be in March?

Im panicking and need a kick up the arse! Please help me to calm the fuck down!

Go to your appointment! Do not miss it this need urgent treatment and you'll need medication too I would think. You're in safe hands I don't like the dentist myself but needs must it will be quick and I'm sure you'll keep tooth Flowers

Christmastits · 15/01/2018 17:10

Thanks I hate the dentist so much but I will go!

Go to the appointment! At the very least they can prescribe antibiotics for any infection, stop it getting worse, and give you advice about what your options are.

We can be broken tooth buddies if you like - one of mine broke on Saturday night and I'm off to get it seen to tomorrow. I hate the dentist too...

Christmastits · 15/01/2018 17:14

@mumonashoestring it's awful isn't it? It just fell out Envy 🤢 grim! But the tooth fracture is in the same place I hit my face so it could be caused by the fall. I just don't want them
To tell me I'm bad at teeth preservation!

Funny isn't it? I think going to the dentist is one of those things that invokes a sort of 'being sent for a telling off' dread in quite a lot of us - regardless of whether we look after our teeth! Mine probably cracked when all my wisdom teeth came through sideways and caused all kinds of trouble with my other teeth...

So how are you generally after your fall? Sounds nasty Flowers

PookieNoodlin · 15/01/2018 17:18

Is it the bit that fell out that's rancid or the bit still left in?

If the bit left still looks ok they might be able to save it and as you say, cap it.

I fell face first off a stage and knocked my front tooth out about 10 years ago now, but the whole tooth fell out and it couldn't be found so I've got a bridge, which is fine and most people can't even tell.

Christmastits · 15/01/2018 17:19

Well I'm a bit bruised but other than that I'm fine, also have a UTI so it's been a great couple of weeks 😂 I tripped over the dog that's how I fell. He was fine and I cursed a lot

Also, they will numb your mouth but it might hurt a bit, if your nerves are exposed!

Pugsleypugs · 15/01/2018 17:23

I hate the dentist too, OP, but let me assure you ignoring going leads to far worse in the future.

I also find that my fear of the dentist is usually completely unjustified but I've just worked myself up unnecessarily in my head since I was a child.

MatildaTheCat · 15/01/2018 17:23

Which tooth is it? It’s either become infected or was anyway so that needs to be treated urgently. It’s amazing that you aren’t in agony tbh.

I fractured a premolar and it was unsaleable and came straight out. The pain when the nerve was exposed was something else. Maybe you’ve lost a bit of molar that was previously filled? So many variables but sadly most treatments will be expensive and uncomfortable.

Good luck. Get it sorted and then have regular dental care going forward.

naughtycurly · 15/01/2018 17:26

My pre molar broke a few months ago and I left going to the dentist for weeks, mainly because I wasn't in any pain. I was woken one night with the most horrific toothache and then I was really scared as I have a phobia of having teeth pulled. Went along to the dentist who gave me antibiotics and a week later went back for a root filling, it was done in two stages two weeks apart. It was left to settle down and then I had a crown fitted. It was mighty expensive but a good dentist will always try and save a tooth rather than extract.

Christmastits · 15/01/2018 17:33

It's the one Next to the pointy one? I've had chemo this year and it's made my teeth dreadful as my mouth was always dry. It did hurt a lot during treatment and I had a very large lump way up into the gum line but I wasn't allowed treatment for the abscess because I was neutropenic a lot and they worried about secondary infection so I had lots of antibiotics but then it just disappeared. I finished treatment for cancer and had a check up booked for March then I fell and I just came out.

The part that's come out was the bit closest to my cheek.

Dentist appointment just got rearranged for Thursday :(

mumonashoestring · 15/01/2018 21:15

Oh balls Sad If it helps, Corsodyl seems to be pretty effective for making sure nothing nasty gets trapped in there and generally keeping everything clean.

My appointment hasn't been cancelled. We have had bloody snow forecast for tonight though

SeaToSki · 15/01/2018 21:20

V important to see the dentist. Infections in your gums/teeth can get right into your blood stream and lead to secondary infections elsewhere in your body (like your heart). If it was rancid it sounds like something is starting to get infected. They may well clean out the whole area, let it sit for a bit to make sure any infection has cleared up and then make a plan to fix your tooth.

mumonashoestring · 16/01/2018 15:57

@Christmastits how are you doing today? Hope it's not too sore?

Mine (what's left of it) will be coming out on Monday Shock

Christmastits · 16/01/2018 16:53

@mumonashoestring oh no!! Can they do a bridge?

OP posts:
BuffysFavouriteStake · 16/01/2018 18:11

OP, also hate going to dentist, but think it's best thing to do in this case.

As regards UTI (and oh god I know how bad they can be) I use a natural product for both prevention and cure (are we allowed to mention names on here? Still newbie) if we're not, feel free to pm me, especially if you're prone to them.

Good luck at the dentist Wine or Gin may help, or maybe that's just me...

idontlikealdi · 16/01/2018 18:16

I fell over and broke the exact same tooth - my dentist repaired it with white filling. Cost £70 which was way less than I expected and didn't hurt at all.

mumonashoestring · 16/01/2018 19:44

He said a bridge should be an option but it needs to 'settle' for 3 months before they take moulds, make plans etc.

Buffy yes you can mention brands on here - after all, if every post you put up just 'happens' to link to that product in some way and you just happen to be earning commission off it, you'll be pulled up on it quickly enough Grin
