To not have to wear a bra to bed

Mustang27 · 13/01/2018 20:42

Ok so I have no idea where to post this please don't flame me. I looked through all the topics but none seemed to fit the bill.

12 days pp and I'm already sick to death of having to wear a bra and pads to bed whilst I'm breastfeeding. My boobs leak and if my last feeding experience is anything to go by they will leak for at least a year Sad I don't mind the pads it's just having to wear a bra to bed that kills me. It's a non wired stretchy one but I still feel restricted. Help what did you do? Any recommendations or tips on how to be a bit more comfy would be great.

Considering changing my username to something Charlie Dimmock related.

You can try the old teeshirt trick.
Take the hem of a loose teeshirt, twist it and tuck it in through the neck. Pull it back through the bottom of the shirt to form a crop top.
Your boobs should 'sit' either side of the bit you pull through.

Does that make any sense?

Or sainsburys do soft bra tops with added padding
They are very comfy

TheFirstMrsDV · 13/01/2018 21:01

I leaked a lot with DC1 but not with the others. You may find you don't

minipie · 13/01/2018 21:01

these ones

Not as comfy as no bra but next best

FellOutOfBed2wice · 13/01/2018 21:03

You need these bluapparel.co.uk/products/women-comfort-colour-seamless-bra-shape-wear-size-s-m-l-xl-xxl-xxxl I’ve got huge boobs which went up to an astonishing 36 MM when breastfeeding. They were like two men’s heads, every other bra I tried was hideous and uncomfortable and restrictive. These however are great, really nice and stretchy but give you just that bit of support you need to not be uncomfortable.

wheresthel1ght · 13/01/2018 21:07

I second the tight vest and tit tape ideas.

I didn't breastfeed so on my had to deal with it for a few weeks but I hates wearing a bra, they were so uncomfortable and would slip and move and I would end up leaking anyway.

minipie · 13/01/2018 21:18

Oh also the Jojomaman ones are cotton - I found any man made ones very sweaty

Allthewaves · 13/01/2018 21:20

I just got used to it. For me it was better than waking to soaked clothes and bed

Allthewaves · 13/01/2018 21:22

I found lilypadz were good once my supply settled down. As vest top kept them in place.

Oooocrikeyitscold · 13/01/2018 21:24

I currently wear a tight vest top. I hear you though. I am sooo over all nursing bras. I can’t wsit to wear something with wires!!

SkyIsTooHigh · 13/01/2018 21:33

With DC1 it was industrial pads and full bras. It settled a lot better with DC2 and I just had a strappy vest top and a folded muslin after the first couple of months.

I soo remember that revulsion feeling of just not standing night time bras again! It didn't bother me that much with DC1.

Maremaremare · 13/01/2018 21:38

I was a prolific leaker and wore these Mothercare Sleep bras (100% cotton) along with Medela breastmilk collection shells

I sometimes tipped the leaked milk in a bottle to feed to baby later.

The breastshells are better for the environment than disposable breastpads too. You just need to remember not to lean forward, otherwise the milk pours out!

MummySparkle · 13/01/2018 21:44

I liked Mothercare feeding bras, but I found that in the mornings I would wake up with square boobs from them filling up and being pushed together all night. In the end I had one of those really stretchy 'magic' bras that I think come in a tin from boots. It was basically an elastic crop top with stronger elastic in the middle so my boobs weren't pushed together. I used a disposable pad in each, and then made myself some giant cloth pads out of some old towelling and tshirts to put behind them because disposable ones always leaked. And I slept on a towel. There was so much bloody milk everywhere!! But the stretchy bra thing didn't feel restrictive. Think I got mine far too big so I could easily whack a boob over the top for feeds and it wouldn't be cutting into me under my boobs. I don't miss the milky boobs in bed struggle!

MummySparkle · 13/01/2018 21:45

I vaguely remember resorting to sticking a giant maternity towel on the inside of my crop top sometimes too because the breast pads just didn't cut it!

Engorged · 13/01/2018 22:57

I also used maternity towels on a cropped top. I hand expressed before bed too. I coslept so breasts were often put to good use.

SunnyCoco · 13/01/2018 23:15

I just slept on a towel topless with no bra 👍

Mustang27 · 14/01/2018 08:42

You are all awesome thank you for the advice. I've noted it all and will be doing some serious shopping today. Glad it's not just me.

I was/am big and found the crop tops linked to by the 36MM poster above pretty good. I bought them from eBay for about £3 each. Search under “yoga top” or “yoga bra”.

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 14/01/2018 09:07

I second lilypadz, they were fantastic....

I didn't like wearing a bra, but I had to wear something (previously a naked sleeper) because we co-slept and DS1 thought I was some kind of all night buffet unless I covered up!

youarenotkiddingme · 14/01/2018 09:13

I lived in a very hot country. I slept with best top and pads like previous poster.

I also used the pampers bed sheets underneath the sheet in case of leakage!

lurkingnotlurking · 14/01/2018 09:18

6 months. That's how long you'll need breastpads for. Try the vest suggestion. Congratulations by the way

seven201 · 14/01/2018 09:21

I have very small boobs so I just wore a tightish vest too that I could yank down or pull one the straps off. Or a nursing vest or a crop top style stretchy bra.

JaneBanks · 14/01/2018 09:54

I wore a stretchy vest with a folded muslin tucked down the front, swapped the muslin over at each feed for a fresh one.
