Someone ranting about her (very gorgeous) DD being let down by a make up artist on the day of her baby shower.

I just .. I am speechless Shock.

I can’t bear baby showers and I didn’t realise you got your make up done for it.

Women at work yday showing me her DD wedding photos then said that the photographer was also the official pregnancy photographer and will be the “cake smash” photographer on baby’s 1st bday next month (wtf is that?!).

I know it’s each to their own and no one is hurting anyone but why are we such a self/social media obsessed society?

I think you have to be a bit hopeless not to be able to do your own make up for an event or night out, it's not rocket science.

YANBU. The photographer is as much to blame though, their job is leeching off this sort of behaviour.

Make up artist for a baby shower - oh purleeaaase!

Baby showers - can't stand them. I prefer to give and receive gifts once baby is safely here.

Cake smash - another ridiculous idea and just not at all cute imo.

Wonder if these image obsessed, Facebook types ever read a book, ever for one minute look outside of themselves?

Fascinating if slightly depressing times we're living in.

HolyShet · 13/01/2018 16:01

it just makes me wonder what world of ridiculous privilege these folks live in

"official pregnancy photographer"....its all very low rent "Hello" magazine.

It's income for someone! A female relative of mine dropped out of sixth form, took two online courses in makeup and said she was going to be a makeup artist. We all thought it would be a threee month wonder, but no, last year she was flown out to Italy and Portugal by brides, she has a "team" now (her hairdresser friend and her Mum who answers emails) and she is making a big success of it as far as I can tell. A woman once paid her just to do "glitter lips" literally glitter on her lips for a night out.

The kicker is - she's not even that good at makeup! I would never say this in real life of course, but it's true. Also her kit is full of cheap shite. If I were paying her I'd want Tom Ford, not elf! I don't think people care though, they just want the kudos of saying they have a makeup artist!

all irrelevant, pointless, tacky.

k2p2k2tog · 13/01/2018 16:26

Baby showers are very grabby. Cake smashes are trashy, tacky and the ultimate in wastefulness.

Just awful.

Have no strong opinions on make up artists, but agree that a lot of the fun is everyone doing everyone else's make up.
