To ask for travel mug recommendations ...

...again?

I started a thread last year as I'd had two leaky mugs in a row and was wasting money trying to find the perfect travel mug that absolutely never leaks.

MN responses were great and voted for a lovely Avex brand mug. I bought it. Was perfect. DH washed it and lost the rubber seal. Now it cannot be used. The same one is no longer for sale and the manufacturer does not offer spares for sale. Angry I can even find the old thread to see which mug came second.

So, what other travel mugs would you recommend? It needs to keep tea hot for at least 2 hrs and positively leak free! TIA

Old-fashioned flask?

magicstar1 · 12/01/2018 10:04

Contigo! I've had mine about 4 years and never had a leak. I put hot 7up in it last week when I had a cold at 7pm and at 4am it was still lukewarm.

Smidge001 · 12/01/2018 10:05

I bought an OXO 'Single Serve LiquiSeal Travel Mug' from Lakeland (in store) last year and it has been great. Highly recommend it.

SaucyJack · 12/01/2018 10:06

The best one I've ever bought was a flip-top flask from Morrisons.

Jjou · 12/01/2018 10:07

Seconding Contigo - it never leaks. I can chuck it in my bag on the way out of the door, and my coffee stays hot, and inside the flask!

ArcheryAnnie · 12/01/2018 10:08

A reliable coffee blog I follow, "Brian's coffee spot", has an extensive review of travel mugs. He's not that bothered by heat retention (drinks his coffee too fast), but is very good on leakproofability!

It's here: www.brian-coffee-spot.com/reusable-cups/

MagicFajita · 12/01/2018 10:08

Corkcicle have a brilliant range. I have the canteen and the travel mug and they don't leak. They keep your drink hot/cold for hours and the canteen has a wide enough neck for ice cubes in the summertime.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 12/01/2018 10:09

Contigo!

Apparently they're the Avex ones just with different branding.

I got mine from eBay for around £15 and couldn't be without it.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 12/01/2018 10:09

A thermos one. Dh has one and it's brilliant.

More expensive but it lasts and lasts.
Only complaint is it keeps things too hot.

DailyMailareDicks · 12/01/2018 10:10

Aha! Contigo bought out Avex! That's why I can't get Avex or spares!

I Knew MN would come to the rescueGrinBrew

Second contigo they are really good.

DailyMailareDicks · 12/01/2018 11:14

I've put my Amazon order through and should be with me tomorrow! Woohoo!

Update: Contigo mug arrived. It's taller than the Avex brand it replaced, but also wider at the top. You need to hold it at the top and squeeze a button to allow you to drink from it.

Sad it's too wide for my hands and I have poor grip strength (due to disability). I don't think I'll be able to use it. Gutted as it's a really nice cup, leakproof etc. Will keep looking for a new one...

I was looking at a Tefal one yesterday which had good recommendations. I'd like something that would keep coffee hot for an hour or so for when I take a drink fromhome to work but that can also be used for buying coffee. Next to my dds nursey there is a Starbucks and after dropping her off I would often pick up a syrupy, caffinated beverage (I know it's not proper coffee!) to drink on the bus to work. I am back to work in a weeks time with two dds! Would the Contingo cup work for coffee shops?

Oh no op, what a disappointment.

Spartaca · 14/01/2018 10:24

Have a look at klean kanteen insulated ones. They keep hot for ages, not one handed operation though.

Multicolouredfish · 14/01/2018 10:26

King Hoff mug is excellent, leakproof and keeps hot. Check dimensions though as it's not super slim.

WeAllHaveWings · 14/01/2018 11:06

Dhs first contigo leaked within 12 months, 2nd was the same, 3-4th leaked within weeks. Wouldn’t buy again.

Dh currently uses a thermos one with pop button on the top and he says it keeps coffee piping hot for hours and neveleaks.

voxnihili · 14/01/2018 11:25

I’d recommend the Aladdin recycled travel mug (from Amazon). It’s totally leakproof and also quite slim so easy to hold.

Singlebutmarried · 14/01/2018 11:27

Have a look at camel back. They do have the squeeze to drink but butnits a nice slim mug, and I can work it with my dodgy hands. They’re about £30 though.

katmarie · 14/01/2018 12:22

I have one of these: www.amazon.co.uk/Vacuum-Insulated-Travel-Double-Leakproof/dp/B0711D43Z2/ref=sr_1_3?s=kitchen&keywords=hoffner+travel+mug&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1515932429&sr=1-3

It's excellent, i got mine and then everyone in the house ended up getting the same as theyre so good. Stays hot for ages, no leaks, dishwasher safe.

daisypond · 14/01/2018 12:29

Contigo. Keeps things hot for up to four hours. It's fabulous. It's never leaked - unlike the vast number of other travel mugs and flasks I've bought.

daisypond · 14/01/2018 12:31

Actually, I have a Camelbak, too - equally good as Contigo, though I don't like the shape as much.

Hissy · 14/01/2018 12:32

Without a doubt, Liveventure thermal mug all day long

Last for years

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 14/01/2018 12:34

Dh has one from Starbucks. We actually never drink there but he needed one from work and a friend suggested it. He won't use anything else now. Makes a brew at 6am and its still red hot when he gets to drink it around 8/9.

operaha · 14/01/2018 12:53

I always describe mine as being too good at its job. 3 hours warm easily
