To report driver?

I was driving home today with DD in the car, I had a goods truck for a well known department store right up my arse to the point if I had stopped suddenly then I feared they'd have gone into the back of me and crushed the car (there was a truck in front of me). They then started flashing me, I assume wanting me to get out of the way. We were in the middle lane, I couldn't get into the left as that takes you to a slip road off and he could have overtaken me in the right hand lane.

I am able to get into the left lane after the next junction and I then see them get quite close to a truck in front.

WIBU to report him to his employer?

Yanbu at all, lorry drivers are paid enough to accept the responsibility of the large vehicle they are trusted with and to drive appropriately

PiffleandWiffle · 12/01/2018 00:05

No he couldn't, lorries aren't allowed into the 3rd lane. Read your highway code.

I'm assuming he wouldn't have been flashing you if you were driving reasonably well so what were you doing?

Also - how did you manage to get his reg number when all this was going on??

PiffleandWiffle · 12/01/2018 00:06

lorry drivers are paid enough to accept the responsibility of the large vehicle they are trusted with and to drive appropriately

And there's no responsibility on car drivers to drive appropriately?? Hmm

Snowysky20009 · 12/01/2018 00:08

He couldn't go in the right hand lane. How slow were you driving? I hope not 40mph or something......

MrsSylviaTietjens · 12/01/2018 00:09

If the left hand lane is a filter lane then I thought they could overtake? As then it’s a two lane carriageway rather than three.

MrsSylviaTietjens · 12/01/2018 00:10

Also it may have been entirely appropriate to be driving 40mph depending on the type of road and conditions

meaningfulInteraction · 12/01/2018 01:06

Definitely log it with 101

whatdoidonowffs · 12/01/2018 01:11

Lorry drivers are paid nowhere near enough for the responsibility and aggravation they have to endure believe me

Redglitter · 12/01/2018 01:18

Definitely log it with 101

The MN answer to everything Hmm
There's no point in logging it. You either report it or you don't. In a case like this if anything report it to the company. There's no point reporting it to the police. Do you really think they're going to go and chase a report of alleged bad driving

Eliza9917 · 12/01/2018 07:36

@piffleandwaffle what's to say the Lorry driver wasn't just an arsehole? I see loads of terrible driving by lorries all the time.

Pickleypickles · 12/01/2018 07:40

How fast were you going? Assuming its a motorway it sounds like you werent keeping up with the speed of the traffic which is actually very dangerous. Slower isnt always safer.

RadioGaGoo · 12/01/2018 07:41

The fact that lorries aren't allowed in the thirf lane, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've seen this more than once.

Singlebutmarried · 12/01/2018 07:45

You’ll often see lorry drivers quite close to the one in front, something to do with better mpg, so that’s pretty standard.

Again as PP have said, it depends what speed you were going at and if the left lane was a filter lane.

How far away from the junction where you?

I ring the company, recently a lighting company van drove very dangerously near me at a busy junction, creating a second lane turning right on the inside so blocking traffic not turning right. Child in the car with me took a photo of the van and I rang them. I don’t want to be hit by someone.

Idontdowindows · 12/01/2018 07:58

Not unreasonable at all to report it. I have done, in similar situations.

Sirzy · 12/01/2018 08:05

Big green are you sure the driver wasn’t simply positioning himself so he had enough swing to clear the turn? Often depending on the Junction they need to use more than one lane to clear it

Eryri1981 · 12/01/2018 08:06

If you confident that you were driving in accordance with the Highway code then I would report the driver to either his employer and/or by 101 to the police.

I have, as a Blue light driver reported to the police in the past, reported drivers and if there is a camera at the location they can quickly pull it up, decide if there is an offence and deal with it. I reported someone from a national company who blocked my ambulance on blue lights (through inattention rather than maliciously) for over a mile on a straight stretch of dual carriage way, police had some lovely footage of the entire thing from a camera mounted on a bridge. They got back to my shift manager within hours to say they were going to proceed with it.

As for reporting to the company. I assume it varies from one company to the next, how well they deal with it. DB and his friends all commute into a busy city by bike, and as such have some scary near misses with inconsiderate supposedly "professional" drivers. One of his friends had a ridiculously dangerous and aggressive incident with a HGV. He emailed the company as soon as he arrived at work. They emailed straight back, reassuring him that they take things very seriously and have dash cams on all vehicles etc. By the end of the day he received a second email, to say they had reviewed footage, the lorry was on a route that the company had banned drivers from using due to safety concerns and the driver had been sacked!! Result!!

TsunamiOfShit · 12/01/2018 08:13

She was behind another truck, so presumable the same speed as the truck in front?

Layla8 · 12/01/2018 08:16

Whatever the rights or wrongs of the situation, he should not have been tailgating her. Report him.

TheXXFactor · 12/01/2018 08:19

I'm assuming he wouldn't have been flashing you if you were driving reasonably well so what were you doing?

LOL. HGVs are massively over-represented in accident statistics. Have a look around you on the motorway and check out all the tail-gating, mobile phone use etc. Some drivers are also aggressive arseholes.

fastfrank · 12/01/2018 08:20

101? Really? If I was a 101 call handler I'd tell you to get off my fucking phone and stop wasting my time.

If you're that bothered call his employer but can't you just let it go? Does it really matter? Nothing bad happened and how can you be sure you weren't driving badly? I drive behind plenty of oblivious folk on a regular basis.
