Moving to a different council and housing benefit!

Hi fellow mums

I am on housing benefits not out of choice. So I want to move from this horrible flat I live in with my family and be closer to my mum. Her area is a bit more expensive so I found an area 20 mins away that's more affordable...maidenhead.

So I called up the council and asked if I need a local connection if I was to move and put in a fresh new claim for housing. And guess what... Apparently I do. Something like a job for the past 2 years.

Have any of my fellow mums moved their housing to another council and been asked local connection land not had but still had their housing benefit approved?

I'm so annoyed right now. I was to move out of London and be closer to my mum but it's all going down the drain. 😭😭😭

Are you sure that they were not confused and thought that you were enquiring about social housing? They often require a local connection for that but have not heard of it for housing benefit

I agree with lists.

As far as I know, the local connection is to be on the list for a council/HA property and not to claim housing benefit.

You should be able to move to a new area, into a private rental, and start a new housing benefit claim, if you find a private landlord willing to accept HB.

Thank you ladies. I shall call them again tomorrow and see what happens

How did you get on Naz346?

Hope things are a bit clearer for you now
