Just that really. I'm curious how much people find time for socialising and exercise etc in amongst family/work/house/sleep...

I go to an evening class once a week, get back in about 9.30pm. The DC are fine without me but then they are 9 and 12, not toddlers.

Lndnmummy · 11/01/2018 17:21

Quite abit but I only have one dc (for now). I meet a friend at least once a week for brunch/wine/coffee and I go to the gym 3 times (stupidly early in the morning though).

Tinkofhousepan · 11/01/2018 17:29

I don't do it very well! I work long and unpredictable hours. I'm always tired. But I do try and make the effort with my friends. I feel a bit bad that I'm always inviting people over to mine though instead of actually going out out.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 11/01/2018 17:33

I have 2 young DC. I go out twice a week in the evenings to the gym once they’re in bed. and on a weekend morning (half hour class). Occasionally my OH will have them so I can have lunch out, usually once a month.

FluffyWuffy100 · 11/01/2018 18:07

Every day

ferrier · 11/01/2018 18:09

When they were pre-school age I would usually be out two evenings a week.

ParkheadParadise · 11/01/2018 18:23

I go to the hairdressers once a week, also get my nails done every 3 weeks. Go out with DH for dinner once a week, in laws have dd overnight. DH works stupid hours so if i want to go out I need to remind him constantly to come home early.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 11/01/2018 18:29

I do volunteering twice a week, one role is a couple of hours early evening and the other is overnight but after DC have gone to bed and get home before they are up.

Helpmeltb · 11/01/2018 18:32

Climbing & pub 2x per week
Acro yoga 1x per fortnight
Caving 1-2 days per month
Those are the regular things. Some ad-hoc stuff too but hard to quantify.

RandomMess · 11/01/2018 19:04

How old are the DC??

Now we can afford it I do classes twice per week, go away to visit friends and go out socialising once or twice per week. Also do fitness class in my lunch hour at work.

Exercise: I tend to do something daily & DH does a big outing maybe 4/7 days/week.

Meal out with friends or something like that is maybe... 3-4x a year for each We both get opportunities for travel via work, too (few times a year each). Sporadic hobby/doss time at home, too.

Ragwort · 11/01/2018 19:24

Frequently, I only have one child so that is probably easier but from the day we got back from hospital I always made sure I did things 'for myself' whether it was just going for a walk alone, volunteering, meeting friends, going for a swim - whatever - I absolutely need time alone. DH has always been the sort of DH/DF who wouldn't expect me to do all the childcare etc and he and DS would do lots of things together to give me time for myself.

I know this might sound unkind but I do think some parents like to 'play the martyr' and never leave their children - either with their other parent or with a trusted babysitter.

lljkk · 11/01/2018 19:26

It's hard if they scream they house down, Ragwort.
My kids fine with DH, but childminder was desperate to give DS back & never see him again.

Bobbins43 · 11/01/2018 19:27

I tend to go out whilst the kids are at school so between 9am-4pm on weekdays.

Capelin · 11/01/2018 19:42

Obviously hard to be sure without having more info, but it’s quite likely to be less to do with the Stuff and more to do with habit / expectations. My kids moan a bit when DH and I go out and they have a babysitter, but we need to have a life too!

otherdoor · 11/01/2018 19:50

On average two evenings a week, I only have one child though and I usually go after bedtime.

Sometimes I go out at weekends during the day and DH looks after her but that's more unusual.

BillyAndTheSillies · 11/01/2018 20:00

Maybe three or four times a month I'll meet up with friends in the evening and maybe once or twice a month with DH.

Spend a few hours on a Saturday once a month in the nail shop and doing shopping and every now and then, DH will take DS over to the IL's for a few hours and I'll have a bath and then meet them later for dinner.

I'm not working at the moment, but as it's only a short gap, DS is still at Nursery two days a week as we didn't want to risk losing his place and were keen to keep his routine the same, so two days a week total me time in between job hunting which is nice.

OurMiracle1106 · 11/01/2018 20:02

No kids. Gym 5/6 times a week. Nails done twice a month. Hair every 3 months.
