To ask why my smoke alarm is going off every 10 mins

Yesterday the fire brigade broke down my door because the smoke alarm was going off, but there was no fire.

Today I am off work.
There’s building work going on two floors below, I have closed all windows and cleaned all dust as I think this may have been the cause. But it’s still happening! I’m going insane! I tried hoovering the alarm, I unscrewed it and shook a bit of dust out. It’s mains attached so don’t think I can turn it off, plus obviously need a smoke alarm!

Anyone ever had this??

If the fire brigade made a visit , surely they would do a follow up from fire prevention team ( they do in my area) like earlier poster said a lot of mains fire alarms have a shelf life .

My fire alarm was fitted by fire brigade and kept going off . Wasn't out of date . They sent me new one in post

Definitely check the expiry date. We recently had to replace the mains alarms in our rental. They're expensive but it's the LL's responsibility to change them if they've expired.

The other thing I thought it might be, if it only goes off when they start working, is a power supply problem. It's a long shot but could the workmen be shutting off the power to the smoke alarms, which would cause them to do odd things.

Could it be the gibration of the building works?

Thanks for all suggestions!

Electrical sent by landlord is going to bring new alarm with cover...he thinks it is dust! We shall see!!

I did wonder about vibration too!

Put new batteries in it if it is a constant beep
