To be furious with my work partner

Today we are working in the middle of nowhere, I made it known when we left this morning that I’d need to stop at a garage or supermarket to buy lunch and this was fine.

We were chatting and she forgot to stop despite me reminding her, we’ve arrived at the location and done our mornings work. It’s not got to lunch time and she’s sat eating hers whilst I have nothing. I’m not insured on this company car (she drove) would it be unreasonable to demand she drives me to the nearest food outlet?

You should have said "Please stop here" when you saw somewhere to buy food.

Do you still have to work there for the afternoon? If so, it would be reasonable to ask, not demand, that she take you to get food.

Mammyloveswine · 11/01/2018 12:33

Why didn't you remind her when you were passing? Tbh you should've remembered your own lunch, it's not your colleagues responsibility to get you your lunch!

Has she said anything? What happened when you realised she had my stopped? If it was impossible to turn back then if that was me id probably have offered to share my lunch with you. What time do you finish?

BellyBean · 11/01/2018 12:35

Yes I'd ask her to drive me. You told her you needed her to and you can't be expected to work this afternoon with no lunch.

JellyTots123 · 11/01/2018 12:35

She took a country route and we passed nowhere on the way! Very annoyed. I suggested running into Sainsbury’s before we left this morning and she said no as we would need to stop for petrol anyway and we didn’t!

Surely you wouldn't have to demand it though if she was any sort of a decent person she wouldn't let you go hungry? You sound unnecessarily hostile about the whole thing tbh Hanger?

stickytoffeevodka · 11/01/2018 12:37

I don't know, surely if you knew you were working away you should have packed your own lunch? I certainly wouldn't expect to be able to pick up lunch on the way - especially if I'm not the one driving.

JellyTots123 · 11/01/2018 12:37

No it’s not my colleagues responsibility but she requested we leave early this morning (at short notice) as she needs to get back so I didn’t have time to get lunch in my local supermarket before I met her! So it was perfectly reasonable of me to ask her to stop especially as it wouldn’t have even been in work hours

And she normally needs to stop for something too when I drive so afain perfectly reasonable. I just love my food and can’t go hungry!

Of course YANBU. Or unnecessarily hostile Confused
Are you going to complain ti HR? I would.

JellyTots123 · 11/01/2018 12:40

I’d never have expected to stop during work hours... So this is my point. I have now been offered tea and biscuits by our work location so all is good for now
