Oh OP, you poor thing. It sounds awful.

can you get some soothing heat on it at all - wheat bag, hot water bottle etc? Might help a bit whilst you try and get your urgent prescription FlowersGinWine

Agree you might well be quicker at home anyway. I had to go to a&e years ago with what turned out to be a pesky gallstone - writhing around in the reception in agony for 5 hours was shit; should have stayed in the warm bath at home!

As someone who works in A&E I would say that you should see your GP first, Theres some good advice about pain relief and heat further up and as long as you have no bowel or bladder symptoms or numbness this isn't an emergency. Very painful, but not an emergency! Many people don't realise that, in terms of take out drugs, we are limited in what we can prescribe. Your GP is much better placed to manage this.

Bluelady · 11/01/2018 11:39

If you want a very long, very uncomfortable wait by all means go to A&E but this neither an accident nor an emergency. Sweet talk your GP's receptionist.

Greensleeves · 11/01/2018 11:41

it is definitely an accident bluelady, i didn't do it on purpose

am not going anywhere, gp is calling me back this afternoon

hope it isn't too long, it hurts so much

Have you had an accident? Is it a medical emergency?
Please don’t go to A&E, you have already seen your GP about this problem, they are the ones to speak to. As others have said, they can organise a prescription over the phone.

Feel for you OP, back pain is terrible.

loobyloo1234 · 11/01/2018 11:56

Can you get an appt with a local physio OP? When my back spasms I have to see someone with 24 hours aswell as take Naproxen. If that helps? I feel for you but I don't think A&E is the first port of call for this

Greensleeves · 11/01/2018 15:19

gp precribed morphine and diazepam over the phone and i've already got it!

thanks for advice Flowers

Hope you feel better soon Brew

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 11/01/2018 15:25

I've been to a&e in this situation and they genuinely don't mind because it's so painful. They'll give you some diazepam

BeyondThePage · 11/01/2018 15:29

Live wait time at our local A+E is 90min.

TammySwansonTwo · 11/01/2018 15:49

Glad they've sorted out your pain relief (relatively) quickly and hope it helps. I've been in constant pain with my back for almost a year now - pumping injury (who knew?!). I'm already on morphine for another condition and no way I would have gotten through some days without it. Once it eases off definitely speak to your GP about some physio.

FlakeBook · 11/01/2018 16:07

I work on A&E and it is absolutely justified in these circumstances.
