AIBU to think darts shouldn't be split by sex

Hears an interview today since there is a darts tournament going on. Men and women both playing their events at the same time in same place. I believe the men are playing for £100000 and women for £12000 if I heard right.

This naturally leads to a debate about even pay, but..... Is there an obvious reason why you'd need to have separate tournaments here? Surely there's no obvious reason why men would have an advantage over women in general. I'm no darts expert so maybe there is?

I do like the fact they play them both together as it gets both sexes coverage at the same time but it just got me wondering why this would be two tournaments in the first place.

Being male does give a natural physical advantage in terms of height.

It also means that you’re more likely to start the game young, as older male relatives are keen to pass their skills and knowledge onto you. You are also less likely to have those constant but oh-so-subtle jibes thrown at you about this game not being for your sex.

If you do appear on any form of media as a fat / ugly/ attractive whatever man you are also less likely to have your looks scrutinised and rated according to how fuckable you are or how much you look like a man.

So maybe the segregation is to encourage women into darts until the world grows up and sees that women are motivated to play sport for the same reasons men are and should be encouraged to do so.

I'm not sure anyone is turned away from darts for being too ugly in all fairness....
