To think I can easily learn HTML?

I need to be able to use this in a new job, they know I can’t but it would make my job a lot easier if I could! I’ve downloaded an app and understand the basics but applying it at work feels way beyond me. Realistically how long should it take to learn to be able to write a web page?

You can learn to write a web page pretty quickly.

Fixing code on pages and adding code to Wordpress sites will take you quite a bit longer. But no harm in trying.

Most of the web designers I know are self-taught. You need to have an inquiring mind and be determined and relish problem-solving.

I know many web developers and coders who still write HTML by hand - I definitely prefer being able to edit code by hand and find it easier to do that with code I've written as opposed to generated by programs

I taught myself within a week at age 14 (because my father's a knob and said computers weren't for girls). Doesn't get much simpler than basic HTML.

CSS is basically as easy - it's just slightly different in terms of its syntax.

Once you have these two more or less down, learn some JavaScript, the basics of which are also still simple (but you can go at least mid-level brainfuck on the advanced stuff with it).

Editing existing pages is a good way to learn HTML if you have the basics. The is a good add on for chrome that let's you highlight text and it tells you what CSS elements it is using. Very helpful. I'll try and find the name

Maybe you should go back for a refresher, every tag has needed a closing tag for over a decade

IIRC IE6 didn't care ... (Do HMRC still mandate it ?)

I taught myself html and css. Not masses but enough to put a simple website together without dreamweaver. Do people still use dreamweaver? I thought it had cone the way of Flash and AS2... (wasted my time mastering that before it went out of date!)

YANBU

I spent about half an hour learning HTML and that was enough. HTML should be for the basic layout only. It's CSS that's the trickier bit!

Try FreeCodeCamp and also check meetup for coding events near you, they often have 1-1 mentoring.

I was wondering about Dreamweaver too. I’ve not used it for about 10 years and last time I used html to build websites was about 2002.

Is it not mainly CMS with CSS and a bit of html now? Unless you are going deep into the coding heart and building the actual templates etc.

Hi op I studied database programming for a while and also used this site for free www.w3schools.com/html/..gave it up as started java level 2 &3 and it bored me to tears.

It pretty much teaches you how to use code in various formats I have linked it to its html page. It also has css etc.
It gives you tests although putting it in practice is another ball game although I found html easy to understand.

I'm not sure how but you can use YouTube to teach you aswell. I had an xp able to create shit and possibly illegal websites and he got pretty good at lots of other illegal stuff....
