February half term caravan break??

Have the time off work for a change and have my mum visiting from other side of country. Dcs 1 and 6 thought would take them all away to spend some quality time with granny but obviously time of year isn't ideal.

I just want somewhere with a pool and kid friendly activities and had thought maybe a holiday park but the weather is making me think it's a crazy idea. There are some parkdean sites open for half term that would give the kids what they would enjoy or alternatively looked at butlins but that's double the price for an apartment which I'd want so we had kitchen facilities to try keep costs down rather than hotel which requires all food out.

Has anyone gone away at that time of year and survived? Dh thinks I'm crackers (and not just for considering going to butlins) and we will all freeze to death

Butlins is a good idea for the childrens ages and they have great swimming pools too! We have done center parcs and that was fab (log fires in the lodges and lovely swimming etc)

Figgygal · 10/01/2018 16:55

We live in Gloucestershire so longleat centre parcs not far but I just can't bring myself to pay their prices.

butlins for the school hols is no different here sadly. Think the sun hols are on at the moment?

blinkineckmum · 10/01/2018 16:55

Get a caravan with a heater. You'll be fine. Parkdean are good value.

dawnc27 · 10/01/2018 16:58

a lot of caravan sites will still be closed until the beginning of march

Figgygal · 10/01/2018 17:00

Centerparcs want £1100 for 4 nights
No bloody way

Butlins wanted £420 yesterday today it's down to £375

Parkdean central heated van indoor pool £210

Maybe I'm being tight but centreparcs are crazy

We have booked at Butlins fri-mon at the start of feb school holiday. Less £100 per night for 1 adult, 2 kids inc of accomadation, breakfasts, dinners (let someone else do the cooking) and all the onsite activities, rides and shows. Just under £300 in total. Think it's reasonable enough and I know (from previous experiances) the kids will have a great time.

Hi Figgy
I did a caravan in Cornwall at Easter, one heater. By the end of week we were in a hotel for a warm bed for the night before our journey home.

Chasingsquirrels · 10/01/2018 17:04

February in a caravan - brrrrr
I'd do a lodge though

We got a reasonable price at Hoseasons Cheddar Woods last Easter, nice lodge, okay pool (just a rectangular one, nothing like Centre Parcs), things about.

We’ve done winter breaks in our own (touring) caravan and been toasty warm. I wonder why statics aren’t warm enough.

Perhaps try a holiday cottage instead- in a place with a good municipal pool.

If it is of any use to anyone, I saw a competition (for a pirate ship?) on the Little Tikes FB page today, and it said that you would get £20 off a family break at Butlins in 2018 by using the code TIKES18.

Lambly · 10/01/2018 17:32

I'd echo the poster above that says Hoseasons. Pools are just standard swimming pools, but you get a nice cottage which does the job and is heated and is good value in comparison to the rest!

Iwanthertoloveit34 · 10/01/2018 17:51

Haven sites have always been good value and the caravans are heated.

cestlavielife · 10/01/2018 18:10

You would be crazy. Freezing even if supposed heating and they not going to be running around outside so much.

RosiePosiePuddingPie · 10/01/2018 18:13

Air BnB? Youth hostels?

Figgygal · 10/01/2018 18:44

I think haven doesn't open its parks until Easter.

I thought air bnb but did want the facilities for the kids

Off to check out bluestone I'm definitely thinking caravan in February is a dead duck.

Get collecting codes from The Sun! £9.50 holidays starts in a few days! X

Nomorechickens · 10/01/2018 19:05

We stayed in a caravan in the south of France at Easter one year. We were freezing at night!
Pretty cold at Haven in Northumberland in the summer holidays too, huddled round the fire at night (cheap caravan so crap heating)
