To be annoyed with someone blatantly ' playing the system'

Just a general annoyance.. A close friend of mine and her husband used to get tonnes in WTC etc.. However he started earning more and they stopped thier payments..
They were annoyed about this and thought it was a struggle getting by. So he has ' moved out' which he hasn't but is using his brothers as a postal address.

They said its wrong how people work they their backsides off and get nothing.
Yet doing it this way she gets her part time wage.. Plus all the help she can which covers bills and his wage is ' spending money' aside from. His own things like car insurance..

It annoys me as I see so many people talking how they generally struggle and then there are people playing the system and get away with it.

Just a general rant really and to see if many others get annoyed by things like this

Stuff like this really pisses me off. I am unable to work through ill health, my husband is now my carer and we live on benefits. Previously my husband worked full time and I worked weekend nights (24hrs) to try and make ends meet.

When I became ill I lost my job and my husband left his job to look after me and our DD’s - who were both born before I became ill.

For every penny we receive we have had to complete numerous forms, show god knows how much evidence, I’ve had to have assessments the list goes on. Which is how it should be.

We have been reported twice for benefit fraud that I know of, once they said to my husband and someone else told one of my closest friends that they had. I have now reached the point where I don’t care, I know the money we get is what we are entitled to.

In saying all of the above if I knew someone was doing that I would report them myself!

Bellamuerte · 10/01/2018 17:13

Everyone fiddles the system if they can. It's convenient for the people at the top to keep us being annoyed at each other over peanuts, instead of being annoyed at them for massive inequalities.

LordWalterTheCourageous · 10/01/2018 17:13

Report them immediately I pay thousands in tax to fund these people

I bet they have a big television as well.

SheKnows · 10/01/2018 17:14

They're the reason that the Benefit System is on its arse and genuine people in need of financial aid aren't getting it.

Tbf, it's not. The benefit system is "on it's arse" because the government have chosen to demonise the poor and make it so.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 10/01/2018 17:16

"The benefit system is "on it's arse" because the government have chosen to demonise the poor and make it so."

YY, this.

Creamcheeseontoast · 10/01/2018 17:16

I know this because it's a close friend of mine. She said it's a temporary thing... But I'd imagine greed would get the better of them
Yes it is fraud more than playing the system..

We should report anyone that's not playing fair, big business, small business, individuals alike.

pollythedolly · 10/01/2018 17:17

*I would report them, without losing a minute of sleep.

Fuckwits.

They're the reason that the Benefit System is on its arse and genuine people in need of financial aid aren't getting it.*

Exactly. I would report I'm afraid.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 10/01/2018 17:17

"I bet they have a big television as well."

Yeah. And a goat. Bastards.

LordWalterTheCourageous · 10/01/2018 17:19

The government has chosen to make people work and contribute to society.

Employment levels are at record highs.

Genuine people in need of financial aid receive financial aid.

tempester28 · 10/01/2018 17:19

It is your friend and not her husband who will get in trouble as I assume it her who is claiming and not her Husband.

k2p2k2tog · 10/01/2018 17:20

*I know of a couple claiming they earn under £10k a year so they can claim full tax credits - and STILL have way more than that in actual earnings

But that's illegal too. I'm self-employed and every year I complete a tax return. I'm well aware that if I make up stories about what I earn that HMRC might investigate me, clobber me with huge fines, make me pay back tax and National Insurance, and possibly fling me in jail. So I don't do it and declare everything.

The only way of keeping earnings low, honestly, as a self-employed person is to not work any more once you've reached your "limit".

MissTeri · 10/01/2018 17:21

Everyone fiddles the system if they can ... No they don't, what complete crap! It's a good job not everyone does it or we'd be really fucked wouldn't we.

k2p2k2tog · 10/01/2018 17:25

Everyone fiddles the system if they can.

they really don't.

Creamcheeseontoast · 10/01/2018 17:26

Yea it's just her claiming as single parent now at the min 16 hours a week.. So only she would get in trouble not her husband.. Altho theybhave both worked out how to do it.. She would be the one who goes to prison not him..
Im not 100% sure if its tax credits or universal she gets but she just said benefits.. I assumed it would be tax credits as not sure universal is in our area or not.

stitchglitched · 10/01/2018 17:27

Does your friend realise that if she is the one claiming fradulently as a single parent she will be the one who carries the can if they get caught? Tell her she risks a prison sentence.

stitchglitched · 10/01/2018 17:28

Sorry xpost with others about her being the one who will get in trouble.

Yep it would be just her who would get done

A few years ago I had a friend who narrowly escaped jail for this .,.her abusive dp basically forced her into it and used the extra money himself. The court couldn’t care less and threw the book at her. she is still paying the Dwp back yet he got away Scott free 😡

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 10/01/2018 17:35

Everyone fiddles the system if they can

Speak for yourself. I don't fiddle the system

OP - report your friend anonymously

Notreallyarsed · 10/01/2018 17:36

No, not everyone fiddles the system. But I completely agree that it’s bloody easy (and convenient) for the government and the MSM to demonise benefit claimants and poor people to get people frothing at the mouth. What folk don’t realise is that while they’re attacking people on benefits, the Tories are lining their and their cronies pockets, evading tax (or allowing it to be evaded) on a massive scale. Yet funnily enough nobody seems to get half as pissed off.

Springiscoming123 · 10/01/2018 17:36

she wont go to prison they never do

Rudgie47 · 10/01/2018 17:38

If all people on benefits stopped claiming tommorrow, taxpayers would still not have reduction in the tax and NI they pay.It would make no difference.
Also billions of pounds worth of benefits go unclaimed each year because people either dont know what they are entitled to or dont want to claim because of the stigma.
Benefit fraud is miniscule compared to tax evasion. Its cunts like Gary Barlow that should be beaten with a stick in public not the everyday person.

NameChanger22 · 10/01/2018 17:39

I don't know one person that fiddles the system.

DuchessofLondon · 10/01/2018 17:40

There's no way that if you were doing this you'd tell anyone.

You'd think so wouldn't you? Only some can't help but brag or don't think it through and have a loose tongue with the wrong people. It just reminds me of that old advert they used to do "Its not if we catch you, its when".

It's benefit fraud. It'll catch up with them in the end.
