to book a Spain beach holiday at Easter

The weather will be around 19 degrees max. Is that warm enough for the beach?

To play on the beach yes. But the sea will be cold (not north sea cold but not pleasant for a swim). When we've done this we've booked a place with a heated outdoor pool and swam in that but tbh I've always found Easter on the Mediterranean coast in Spain surprisingly cold.

FluffyWuffy100 · 09/01/2018 20:43

Can you get a bit further to Tenerife? Should be a little bit warmer.

foxyloxy78 · 09/01/2018 20:57

Yeah, some good deals about but thinking it won't be worth it...

My response is coloured by quite a miserable eastern holiday to Spain where it was quite cold and rained all week. Whilst being beautiful and sunny back in England...

Spent a lot of time lying on the hotel bed under the covers (no heating) reading.

ForalltheSaints · 09/01/2018 22:10

Easter is earlier this year than usual. You'll have the daylight but not the warmth you might hope for.

irishe · 09/01/2018 22:20

Honestly I wouldn't. Had a friend went to Spain at Easter one year, to an Ai. They ended up having to buy warmer clothes, it was so cold. And the Ai restaurant was open at one side with no heating, the kids moaned so much, they had to go looking for other restaurants to eat in.
An expensive, cold holiday. Never again, was my friends advice.

Having said that, they clearly packed for and expected warmer weather. All about your expectations for the holiday.

If you want a beach holiday at easter, go to the canaries, Cape Verde etc.

Went to the Costa Del Sol end of April last year and it was lovely and hot and sunny 2 days out of the other 7 that were overcast and either raining or chilly

speakout · 09/01/2018 22:59

I wouldn't.

I tried a beach holiday in April in Spain and it was cold.
Swimming pool at hotel and sea were freezing. Cool breeze too. Spent most of the week with goosebumps.
Can be rainy in Spain at that time too.

GammaDelta · 09/01/2018 23:12

I Have been looking for deals but it us very expensive... but yea sea is cold around that time in Spain

ChasedByBees · 09/01/2018 23:15

Ive found it fun in the past but it was too cold to swim outside. A lot of the parks and tourist things were closed too. If there’s other attractions, it could be good.

JaceLancs · 09/01/2018 23:19

I went to Spain in March last year for a city break
Couldn’t believe how hot it was - really wished I’d taken shorts and vest tops rather than jeans and t shirts
Agree with others a heated pool would be best and the sea won’t have warmed up enough
Off to the canaries next week not sure what weather to expect - we do have a heated pool though

applesareredandgreen · 09/01/2018 23:22

Whereabouts in Spain are you planning to go? We will be going to Costa del Sol next Easter. Have been previously and recall it being hot around mid-day but chilli early morning and evening (chilly as in jumper but not coat).

We are not really sunbathers though - just enjoy being able to sit outside cafe or on the balcony in a tee shirt.

Atticusss · 10/01/2018 09:19

Canary Islands are warmer and usually cheaper than mainland Spain. Gran Canaria was 28 degrees on Christmas Day but averages 25 degrees all year round. Tenerife should be about the same. Lanzarote slightly cooler in winter I think but only a couple of degrees. I've been considering Canary Islands for October/November half term next year instead of a summer holiday, I'd imagine Easter would certainly be warm enough.

amusedbush · 10/01/2018 09:59

I've done Spain and the Algarve around easter and both times it was cold and rainy.

I echo pp who have suggested the Canaries. I spent Christmas there one year and even then it was 20+ degrees.

Ohyesiam · 10/01/2018 10:32

I love Greece in the Easter break.
Crete is the most southern point in Europe, so it had the best chance of warmth and sun.
It's beachy in the day, and the sea is good for swimming, we all get tanned. It's fine to eat in open type restaurants in the evening, with a cardy, but you don't wasn't to sit out on the balcony late at night after the restaurant.

Zoomtune · 10/01/2018 10:35

Cyprus/Canaries better. We went to Lanzarote last Easter and it was very pleasant. Having said that, the sea was freezing as were most of the pools

Chienrouge · 10/01/2018 10:40

My IL’s live in Spain (near Alicante) and we go in April most years to visit. Sometimes it’s warm, sometimes not! Last year it was hotter than we expected and we had to go to H&M and buy the DC some summery clothes! We played on the beach most days but the IL’s pool (unheard) was freezing (although that didn’t stop my then 3 and 2 year olds from going in!). It’s hit and miss.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/01/2018 10:48

The further east you go, the better.
I worked as a holiday rep for many years in various resorts, Spain, Algarve, Greece etc. The warmest places in April were Cyprus and Crete.
As a pp said, Easter is very early this year and the sea and most outdoor pools will be cold. We used to have a lot of unhappy guests in April/Easter who were expecting mid summer temperatures.
You'll be travelling during what is 'officially' still the winter season.
The Canaries will be warmer (as would Malta - was there in November and it was 20 degrees every day).

Spikeyball · 10/01/2018 10:51

We've done southern Spain at easter. It was nice weather for wandering about but I wouldn't have wanted to have sat for long on a beach.
