Contraceptive pill and long term use

Totally not an AIBU, I’m purely posting for traffic.

I was put on the contraceptive pill by my Dr when I was 19 - I would get really bad cramps and almost fainted a few times. The pill has been great and completely settled everything down.

But I’ve now been on it almost 10 years.

I’m in a serious relationship and discussions are starting re children and marriage etc. It occurred to me that my long term use of the pill might mean I could struggle to conceive.

Does anyone have any information on this? Just hoping for a bit of guidance really, I have no children now worry that I might discover using the pill for so long has damaging effects.

As far as I know, the contraceptive pill doesn't have any lasting effects on (return of) fertility, unlike say the depot injection which can delay return of fertility by even a year or so.

I was on the combined pill for almost 14 years- came off it aged 34 and conceived first cycle following the withdrawal bleed, so no idea what my "real" periods were like.

Second pregnancy I'd been back on the combined pill since around 6 weeks post-partum...aged 37 I stopped in the March, withdrawal bleed then BFP the next month!

I wondered if there was some "rebound" effect on fertility after coming off the pill, don't know, but I seemed to be v fertile/lucky directly after stoping the pill.

Hope my experience gives you some reassurance.

I was on the pill for over 25 years on and off, mostly on and got pregnant very quickly each time I came off. (within a couple of weeks). I was on a few different ones over the years can't remember the names but i think one was called jasmine.

I have been on the same pill since I was 13. I'm 26 now. Stopped taking pill in October, started TTC last month and 4ish weeks pregnant already. I would guess it's different for everyone. I don't think it affects your fertility or anything, could be wrong but as far as I'm aware. Luck of the draw when it comes to conceiving! Good luck for whenever the time comes OP.

Was on the pill for 12 years before coming off to try for a baby. Conceived in 3 months. Back on for 4 years, again conceived in 3 months when I came off. Just come off the pill at 40 to have the implant. I don't think it affects fertility at all although their are health risks after 40 I believe

I had been on the pill for ten years too... stopped it... waited for one ‘true’ cycle/period and then got pregnant on the third cycle. No issues at all for me in terms of fertility.

Hey
So I have 2 children already 18 and 8 and we’re trying for another one, I’ve stopped taking the pill and was one the one that you take continuously and hardly had periods at all on it. It’s been 6 weeks now I’ve still not had a period but plenty of cramping and more discharge I’m also 38 now so worry it’s going to a problem conceiving.
Has anyone any advice or been through this also that can help maybe?

I was in the mini pill from October last year to January this year. I came off it to try for number 2. I waited weeks no bleed or period, turns out I was already pregnant, it only took a week after stopping the pill.I'm 39 weeks now.

Wow that is fast I’ve took a test and it was negative so suppose I will have to keep waiting although I might speak to docs next week and check I’m ok
