TO be pissed off when DP says ‘you look tired’

Because it implies huge black bags under my eyes?

Unless your dp is acknowledging that you've had a tough day and need to put your feet up? Maybe said with empathy?

speakout · 08/01/2018 22:34

I don't mind if my OH says that.
It's usually shown with concern in mind and followed by a " why don;t you have an early night-I'll bring you a tea in bed while I tidy the kitchen"

MaisyPops · 08/01/2018 22:34

Why?

If DH says it to me I take it to mean 'you seem like you've had a long week and could do with some TLC'.

It wouldn't have occurred to me to take it any other way.

TractorTedTed · 08/01/2018 22:35

If mine said it to me I'd think he was just being empathetic rather than rude.

DoJo · 08/01/2018 22:35

I love it when mine says it as it is the precursor to telling me to go back to bed!

stickytoffeevodka · 08/01/2018 22:37

It doesn't bother me - it normally means he'll make me a cup of tea!

Moussemoose · 08/01/2018 22:38

It's because he cares and he is concerned about you?

Would you rather he lied?

Intercom · 08/01/2018 22:39

Would you rather he said "You have huge black bags under your eyes"? 🤔😀 Seriously though, it's probably just his way of acknowledging you've had a busy day.

LittleMe03 · 08/01/2018 22:40

Hmm poor man

Januarybirthdaysareshit46 · 08/01/2018 22:40

OK thank you all - the consensus seems to be that AIBU .

Just makes me feel a bit blurgh but maybe I have taken it the wrong way

Your DP probably doesn't mean it like you think. However when my MIL says it to me it is definitely code for you look like shit so for that reason YANBU.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 08/01/2018 22:50

Mine never would. He claims to be tireder than me, yet I get up first to get the DC up, then after waiting until DD finishes reading her eBook so I can carry sleeping DS2 to bed, I put uniforms on radiators for Wednesday. I was in bed at 10.30. Xmas Hmm

katmarie · 08/01/2018 23:06

Mine would usually follow it up with 'why don't you go and rest for s bit, I've got this'. If your dp is generally a kind and caring sort, he's probably just worried about you. Take the opportunity, and welcome any help he offers. I find too often I go 'no I'm fine' and carry on even though I am really tired, and I could let him help. I think it's just pride, but I'm not doing either of us any good really by not accepting help.
