To stick to the baby name?

SIL is due the same week that I am. I know that we could easily give birth weeks apart and obviously could have babies of the opposite sex. But she mentioned she's worried we'll pick the same name. I think this is highly unlikely anyway but WIBU to stick to the name if she gives birth before me and by some miracle picks the same name?!

We live in different countries and they would never be in the same school or see each other more than once every 1/2 years.

With DC1 we picked the name once we knew the sex and kept it to ourselves until announcing at birth. I'd like to do the same this time. Especially as it will be nice for dc1 to hear us discussing baby sister or brother.

Is this a big deal?

I wouldn't tell her the name. She may not have considered it before, and on hearing it, decide it's the ONLY name she can use.

That was my first thought.

Do not tell her. Since you don't mind the cousins having the same name, there is no advantage in discussing it.

If she has her baby first and uses the name, you can still call your baby that and just ride out the hate waves.

If you have your baby first, you can use the name and will be immune from all accusations of "stealing" it. Ignore all pressure to change it - just refuse to enter into any discussion.

It's unlikely that you have chosen the same name - but just in case you have, keep it to yourself.

Don't tell her your name.

Tell her you have a specific name in mind that you are 99% sure you will use even if she also chooses it, but you're waiting until your baby is born to be absolutely sure.

If she wants to tell you her name that's up to her, but still don't reveal your name at that point. You can just tell her "no that's not the name we're using" just incase she hears your name and decides that actually she's got to use that name and only that name now.

Is this a joke? You're worried about your sil who lives abroad wanting the same baby name as you, despite neither party having any names in mind or even knowing the sex of the new arrival?

I'd go and buy some lottery tickets. Similar odds.
