AIBU for wanting more time off sick?

AIBU to think I should have had more time off from work?
Severe morning sickness- hyperemesis.
Had 3 weeks off when I was vomiting hourly or more, now back at work. Only vomiting 3-7 times a day now.
Feel exhausted constantly, as if I could just shut my eyes for 1 second and drift straight off.
Meds make me so drowsy. But without them I’m throwing up all the time.

Should I go back to GP and ask to be signed off for another week?
I honestly don’t think I can cope.
-may also be overemotional/hormonal-

I would go back to your GP, you don't sound well at all. There's nothing wrong with taking the time you need to recover. Get well soon x

KarmaStar · 08/01/2018 12:28

Yes go back to your GP and get some advice, have you spoken to your HR?perhaps they'd be happy for you to do reduced hours also when you come back.
I hope you feel better soon OP,you must be exhausted.

Tiredtomybones · 08/01/2018 12:29

See your GP and ask for extra time. Being sick 3-7 times a day must be exhausting.

Blackteadrinker77 · 08/01/2018 12:30

The employer would most likely want you to get signed off, your productivity level would not be good.

RockingLobstering · 08/01/2018 12:34

@Blackteadrinker77
I doubt it, its just me and boss in the office. 2 in warehouse, so when someone is ill it has a big effect on the rest of the team.
Already feel quite resented for having so much time off already, but everyone makes me feel like I should just be getting on with it and dealing with it.

Definitely go back to the GP, OP. I've had hyperemesis and the more you try to do, the worse you will make yourself. Get signed off, don't go back till you feel well.

RockingLobstering · 08/01/2018 16:30

Going to ring soon and see what GP can do, hopefully they'll be able to see me tomorrow, I'm so tired.
The 3-7 estimate has now turned into 10+... stuck at work for the next 30 minutes then I'm free to sleep!

Have more time off. I didn't take any time off for nausea/sickness and regretted it as I just wore myself out.

JustVent · 08/01/2018 16:59

If your colleagues were being sick 10 time a day (whether it be pregnancy or not) they wouldn’t be in.

It’s purely because it’s pregnancy related that they aren’t being supportive.

It’s not your fault pregnancy has caused this.

Stay off work and recover.

Whiterabbitears · 08/01/2018 17:19

OP your health and your baby must come first so yes you need to be signed off. I agree that they are not being sympathetic because its pregnancy related.

RockingLobstering · 08/01/2018 19:22

Thank you all Flowers
I've got an afternoon appointment tomorrow and I won't be going into work before, I bought some ketones measuring stick things on the way home and my ketones are at 2 currently , it was 3 when I was in hospital and they wouldn't let me out till they reached 1 :)
So convinced myself work can suffer without me for a few more days!

Absolutely.

OP, I wouldn’t be surprised if your doctor suggested admitting you tomorrow for fluids. Maybe pack a small bag just in case.

I didn’t suffer with HG but in my last pregnancy I suffered with ‘normal’ sickness and it was way worse than my previous pregnancies (I’m older I wondered if that may be why) and when I was feeling really bad my thoughts would always drift to my good friend who had HG throughout her pregnancy. I actually don’t know how someone with HG copes, you deserve rest, as much rest as you possibly can, kindness and sympathy. If work aren’t giving you that, then I wouldn’t exactly wish the Aussie fly on them, but ya know, it would be karma wouldn’t it Wink.

Best of luck tomorrow.

*aussie flu

mirime · 08/01/2018 22:18

@JustVent it's awful isn't it, I may have actually had HG at the 'milder' end, I don't know as my GP and midwife were less than helpful, but all day everyday my only thoughts were when could I risk having a drink and would I keep it down and the same for food. That started at eight weeks and lasted until gone 20 weeks, though the actual nausea started two days after my period was due.

Awful and one of the reasons I'm sticking with one DC. I have nothing but sympathy for those who have it worse.

Plummum2 · 16/08/2018 11:09

I've been suffering from HG since week 5 and I'm now week 14 it's so bad there are days I can't get out of bed. Taking Ondansetron stops the vomiting but the exhaustion is too much to handle. I had 2weeks off and the dr has just signed me off for another 4weeks I've given up feeling guilty. This is a medical condition and work should be treating u with the care that any other medical condition would bring. Rest up!
