To ask you to help me understand calorie deficit/myfitnesspal?

Will keep this short as I'm tired, suspect my brain has melted hence my complete mind blank about this.
I've just started the standard January healthkick. Am using My Fitness Pal synced with my Fitbit.
Today I've done a fair amount of exercise because I went on a long run. Have attached a picture of MFP dashboard that shows calories in, calories gained by exercise and the net calories.
The -152 isn't my calorie deficit is it? Or is it?

Sorry this is probably completely obvious, it's been a long day...

It’s telling you that you’ve only taken onboard 152 calories today because you ate 1414 then exercised 1262 off

You should be really careful of exercising like this - your body will end up burning muscle for fuel and so it’s much better to eat more for your body to burn for the run then have a post-workout protein snack

Don’t be doing this every day

The net is that you've eaten 152 calories more than you've burned.

Your target of 1400 is fine for a light/ sedentary day, but you've burned an additional 1200+ with the long run. You need to eat more back or your body won't have the energy and nutrients for recovery.

@shirleyphallus - great name by the way - this is what I was worried about, why I wanted to check. Today is a fluke in terms of amount of calories as I was absorbed in an audiobook and ran for a LOT longer than I would usually.

I agree about MFP being over generous with calories - but in theory, I should be eating half the 'gained' calories from exercise from what you're saying, which is along the lines of what I was thinking too as that makes sense to me.

Thanks for your help. In conclusion, today is not actually a healthy day at all in terms of being good for me! But I've got my head around it now I think so can make sure I'm being sensible about calories taken in while I'm exercising.

Mfp is really inaccurate about calories burned. I checked how much other website said (went to a swimming site , then a walking one etc).
But well done on starting.

@ohyesiam interesting. I wonder how accurate Fitbit is, since it's what it's all being based off of...
I have the charge 2. Might do a bit more research. My fear was that it would be inaccurate and I'd end up 'eating back' loads more calories than I should be, so tripping myself up before I'd even started.

I'm following a calorie deficit diet and I use a Fitbit. I've burnt 2531 calories today so I eat 2000. This is just an example as you'd need to get the average over 7 Days. I've also done 10k steps.

Can I suggest you google TeamRH and listen to what Richie and Rachel say. You can find them on Facebook to, if you join its around £4.50 a month but their advice and knowledge is just amazing.

I'm not hungry and I've lost 2lb this week 😆 I'll warn you Richie tells it like it is but he talks sense (with swear words)!
