To be wary of taking this job?

I've been offered a second interview for a job.
The problem is on research from this position and company they have changed their company name to variations of the same name 4 times in 8 years, their networth is minus almost 100k and the customer reviews for the product and service are awful.
I could do with the job but as a single parent I really can't be in a position of losing the job a few months down the line. The other thing is the rang me for to arrange the first interview within half an hour of me emailing the application despite when I went back and looked the job had been listed more than a month ago.

Don’t do it. If you have a strong vibe they are in financial trouble and you can’t afford to be in and then suddenly out of work I just wouldn’t take the risk.

Mybabystolemysanity · 07/01/2018 21:30

Don't think I would, sorry. I think you have more to lose than gain with this one.

Upshitcreeknopaddle · 08/01/2018 05:21

Thanks, that's what I thought :(

I'd go to the second interview and ask the questions you've raised above. It does sound dodgy though.

Don't waste your time. They sound like a basket case.

Focus on a company that looks stable and has a product or service you can have faith in.

AstridWhite · 08/01/2018 06:06

No No No.

You don't need the hassle and you can do better.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/01/2018 06:27

Definitely don’t leave a decent/stable job for this place.

MissDuke · 08/01/2018 06:28

I think it would be a massive knock to your confidence if this all goes tits up quickly. IT really does sound like a massive risk. Keep looking, you will get something better Flowers

Slartybartfast · 08/01/2018 06:33

you dont have a job, surely a chance of a job is a positive?

araiwa · 08/01/2018 06:35

but you dont have a job now?

why worry about what might happen months down the line and worry about your current situation- jobless

nothing to stop you carrying on looking for better jobs whilst you work there and earn some cash

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 08/01/2018 06:37

Are you on JSA or UC? Any other jobs looking likely at the moment?

HotelEuphoria · 08/01/2018 06:41

It's likely if the company folds again she won't get paid so sometimes no job is better than a job with no pay.

LightastheBreeze · 08/01/2018 06:43

Depends if you have a job, if you do then definitely no, if you don't and are in receipt of benefits then probably yes

lalalalyra · 08/01/2018 07:05

What's your financial position (roughly) at the moment?

I wouldn't mess up a UC claim or give up another job for one like that. Especially if you would have any expenses - travel, new clothes etc.

Trust your instinct. A company suddenly leaving you without pay unexpectedly is an absolute nightmare.

ShoesHaveSouls · 08/01/2018 07:08

Is it sales? Commission based? I'd be very wary of that.

Upshitcreeknopaddle · 08/01/2018 07:58

The current situation is I am self employed but my very long term subcontract with a company ended on Boxing day unexpectedly (not my fault they just couldn't afford us) I have other self employed work but only a few hours a week and while I am looking for more contracts I have to be realistic.

Currently on tax credits but that's it.

sonjadog · 08/01/2018 08:00

I wouldn't take this job, no. Keep looking!

Upshitcreeknopaddle · 08/01/2018 08:00

No customer service manager. Which could be interested based on the product reviews.
There's only 7 in the office and she is currently looking for five new staff as they are messing her around and not coming in apparently.
Paid salary but the office is a rented office within a generic block rather than a proper place.

I don’t think you’ve anything to lose by taking it though? Unless there are loads of jobs you could be missing out on, at least you would be salaried for the time you are there.

lalalalyra · 08/01/2018 08:43

Have you considered asking if they'll pay weekly?

That way you'll never be too out of pocket. If they are truly desperate for staff then they may consider it, even just for a few months until you get a feel for the place.

That way you wouldn't be out of pocket much if it goes wrong.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/01/2018 08:49

No, I wouldn't - if nothing else you could give yourself a massive headache having to sort out tax credits etc only to find yourself let go/not paid three weeks later and have to re-apply etc.

Don't do it!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 08/01/2018 08:52

Be very cautious.

I once accepted a job where I had some misgivings, because I was desperate to leave the job I was in. I realised on my first day that I had made a horrible mistake, but had to stick it out for almost a year because it would look bad on my CV otherwise. Overall taking that job set me back time, money and confidence, and I should have just kept looking for a job that didn't smell off from the start.

ShoesHaveSouls · 08/01/2018 09:39

Customer Services for a crap product may not be a barrel of laughs though.

Plus, staff absenteeism is an indicator that all is not well in the workplace - both culturally, and professionally iyswim.
