To ask about career opportunities in HR?

Sorry to stick this in AIBU, but I need the traffic.

I'm considering studying for an MSc in Human Resource Management. DH seems to think that it could well be a waste of time. Firstly, because I have no experience in this field, and secondly, because he doesn't think their are many job opportunities in this field in the North West.

Could anyone with any knowledge please shed some light? Also, if you work in this field - do you find it to be a rewarding career?

TIA.

CaseStudy can you tell me what role you did before, it's not too "outing"?

Or if it is, what sort of experience in general you had prior to starting your masters, please?

Sure, I worked in external recruitment overseas for about 3 years. Before that, it was couple of years in customer service type roles.

I'd wanted to do an MSc for a while and had a natural gap to do it in. I think that, combined with my experience definitely helped me get the job I'm in now. It's with a big, well-known company and I have been approached on LinkedIn for similar jobs because of the company name & profile.

I work in hr and nothing beats experience, I have done cipd courses and usually you need to work in hr to do the projects/course work.

Hr tends to be a role that has quite a lot of misconceptions. People either think it is just about making employees happy and championing the em0loyee but it is very legally orientated and you are there to do as you employer wants. It is a lot of admin and can be difficult such as doing redundancies and hearing people struggles when doing absences eyc. But I love it, it is a fab job
