To ask what recycling bins you have

Need new bins, the council only collect one black bin and we have to take all our recycling to the dump ourselves.

I'm going to try move away from buying things in so much packaging and be more sustainable ie make my own wet wipes etc but I want some kind of compartmentalised bins or baskets, something we could transport easily, so can I ask what you all have please?

Not an aibu, except maybe the expectation that the council should collect recycling (they do for other streets in the borough but not all of them) and also, to expect that the dump should have a bin for plastic recycling (it doesn't - I might take ours to my mums and put it in her recycling bin).

No, it's a Victorian terrace townhouse with a basement level which is why there's steps from the back door to the garden, there's steps from the street to the front door so our 'ground' level is above street level if that makes sense.

That’s terrible OP

We have 1 mixed and 1 food and 1 recycling mixed

My council tax is £137 a month

How much is yours ??

Eliza9917 · 07/01/2018 22:19

Our kitchen, and bathroom & living room is on the level that the front door is, all the other floors are normal rooms.

It's about £140pm and going up apparently, our council are absolute shit, the surrounding towns are clean, binmen don't leave any mess, this are cleaned up and removed straight away etc, and they pay less council tax than our town.

3 wheelie bins - 1 for food and garden waste, 1 for mixed recycling and 1 for general household waste

Unevenbeard · 07/01/2018 22:23

And collected weekly

humansnowman · 07/01/2018 22:24

Black bin for general waste. Collected 2 weekly.

Green sack for cardboard/paper
Either green sack or box for plastic
Green box for glass/cans although I have a white sack as I can't pick the boxes up.

Green wheelie bin for garden waste/food feelings although this isn't collected over the winter.

Snowysky20009 · 07/01/2018 22:28

I thought our bins was a faff:

Black box- weekly
Blue bag- every other week
Black bin- every other week
Geeen bin- every other week (no collection Nov-Feb)
Brown food bin- weekly

But reading these, actually ours is pretty good!

OwlinaTree · 07/01/2018 22:33

something like this?

Sitranced · 07/01/2018 22:49

Our council collects no recycling from our house also just a black bin collection every week. Mid terrace, small city suburb with an awful council.

We try to compost everything we can, cardboard and paper included. Jars and bottles are mostly always reused but we still throw a mountain of plastics away.

JaceLancs · 07/01/2018 22:52

Black bin general waste
Brown bin garden rubbish
Blue bin mix of glass plastic and tins
Boxes for cardboard and paper

JaceLancs · 07/01/2018 22:55

General waste 2 weekly
Everything else 2 weekly
I don’t put blue bin out often maybe twice a year
Garden rubbish we pay extra for
I’ve no idea how we collect so much cardboard and paper though - despair about the amount of over packaging

Eliza9917 · 07/01/2018 23:10

Thanks owlinatree, I'm going to go with the bag type boxes

I have this one from Argos and labels from Amazon or no one would remember what goes where! Not huge though but I've got in habit of emptying it every night and we don't have a big household. Also have food caddy. Several outside bins which match these labels, except food and garden waste which is mixed.
