I live here and have done all my life but I'm looking for some advice from you Mumsnetters about a romantic place for me and my DP to go for a Valentine's meal when he's hear Valentine's weekend.

We've been long distance and at this point we last saw each other properly in November so it's been left to me to choose somewhere as I'm from here.

I live and we'll be staying in Durham so any advice anyone can think of that isn't a chain restaurant would be appreciated. And not House of Tides or Peace and Loaf in Newcastle because it's the type of food I hate! Any cuisine other than Indian too.

Thank you for any help in advance :)

The Lamp Room was amazing when it first opened, I went nearly every week with different parts of my family but as Seaham seafront got more popular the food went downhill.

My friend went and was so shocked they had panackalty on the menu, of course a local food, but it was nothing like the traditional stuff and just soup. I've just been to the seafront 30mins ago to go to Asda and it's packed with people - That's the main thing that puts me off.

Don't go to Ashoka either it has loads of complaints recently

Rustico on Heaton Road, Newcastle. Italian and Albanian food and very reasonable pricewise. I've never had a bad meal from there.

I'll have to take DP as he loves seafood @gingerbreadman and @BlueNeighbourhood1

Also off to look up the Seaton Lane Inn!

Seaton Lane Inn is fantastic and would recommend to anybody. Just a shame last time he was here that was where we went otherwise. Definitely give it a try!

I like Gusto in Newcastle.

I was going to say Blackfriars too, or The Patricia

If you end up in Newcastle then Kaltur is very good

Riley’s fish shack on king Edwards bay in tynemouth is incredible. Also the jolly fisherman in craster and Ernest in the ouseburn. The ship inn also in the ouseburn has recently gone vegan but people are literally raving about it.
