Was I wrong for saying it out loud?

DH and I want to look at cots today. We parked up in a big retail park on the outskirts of town and started walking towards Mothercare.

Just as I was crossing the road a young blonde woman in a soft-top German sports car swung into the junction without indicating, forcing me to jump back.

I said to DH: “She just about ran me over”. Then as she passed I noticed she was on her phone and added: “Probably cos she’s on her phone and not paying attention”.

Because of the soft top the woman obviously heard me. She slammed on her brakes and jumped out of her car - her opening gambit was “Oi Skinny!”.
Now I am broad of arse (size 20 pre pregnancy but had lost three stone to get there) but I am also almost six months pregnant (this is he downside to being overweight and pregnant- it isn’t obvious).

She then ranted that she has every right to be in her phone, it’s not illegal on private property (wrong!).

I ended up in tears in Mothercare 😥.

Sounds like an upsetting incident, OP. Drivers on their phones is always unacceptable. The woman was not just U but unsafe and breaking the law.

Bluelonerose · 07/01/2018 16:12

If it's a retail park with cctv use be tempted to contact them. They've got proof then if then want to show police to get her done for driving on her phone.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/01/2018 16:13

You can lose the baby weight once you’ve given birth. She can’t stop being a bitch. Would you want to see if there was cctv to report her?

PoorYorick · 07/01/2018 16:17

Ha, that's the best the silly bint could do? She drives illegally and like a moron, nearly kills a pregnant woman and when called up on it, all she can think of is, "Well, you're not skinny!"???

What a cretin. The only thing that would offend me is that if someone almost ran me over, it wasn't a better class of moron.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/01/2018 16:17

"She has every right to be on her phone." Erm no she doesnt, well at least not when shes driving. Id had reported her sorry arse. Did you not get her Reg.
As pp says. She freaked out because shed been called on breaking the law.

PoorYorick · 07/01/2018 16:20

Actually OP, please tell me she went on to call you a smelly bumface. I'm not expecting much better from such a garden variety twat.

CoolCarrie · 07/01/2018 16:27

Fair, don’t let this nasty bitch get to you, she was totally in the wrong, and obviously one of the smart arse people who thinks that laws don’t apply, fuck her and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

Kiki275 · 07/01/2018 16:28

It's a shame she didn't do it on a retail park near me, I'm sure there'd be a kind soul who'd occupy her recently vacated drivers seat and valet park her car for her in a different county, leaving her free to take her call :) x

JaneEyre70 · 07/01/2018 16:30

She was a twat OP and knew it, that's why she reacted. People like her are the scum of the earth. It takes seconds to kill someone in a car if you are distracted.

FairfaxAikman · 07/01/2018 16:31

@Sweetpea55 he was encouraging me to walk off but at the end of the day I don't need "protecting" as this is not the 1950s and he knows how I'd normally handle it and knows he'd normally have to hold me back.
I'd started crossing the road before him.
Don't think he was expecting me to be in tears.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 07/01/2018 16:38

How did she reckon Mothercare's car park was her private property?!

RoseWhiteTips · 07/01/2018 16:39

Of course you were not wrong. She was because she was breaking the law and because she behaved like a thug. Forget her. She is a git.

WhatWot · 07/01/2018 16:43

Should have recorded her and post it on YouTube.

chocolateworshipper · 07/01/2018 16:51

I'd rather be overweight than be a bitch

Megs4x3 · 07/01/2018 17:00

I don't mean to bellitle your fright or your feelings, but please, try not to let it spoil your day. The woman was in the wrong and incredibly rude, but you are never likely to see her again. It was a horrible moment in an otherwise lovely day. At least its been lovely and sunny here so I hope it was for you too. Don't give the moment more time or importance than it deserves. :-)

PurplePoppySeed · 07/01/2018 18:18

@FairfaxAikman maybe she didn't hear you then but knew she was in the wrong! Sorry I didn't think about the hormones - they're a bitch!

She was still in the wrong whatever, there's never an ok time to be on the phone when driving. Private land or not, she was outside fucking mothercare ffs, one of the most likely places a kid could run out on her!

clueless2010 · 07/01/2018 19:28

Think you gotta feel sorry for people like her...shes clearly deluded or an absolutely miserable person if she thinks she has the right to treat you that way. Karma will deal with her!

FairfaxAikman · 07/01/2018 21:59

DH took me out to lunch. I don't normally eat dessert (baby leaves less room in stomach right now) but I had a massive chocolate fudge cake with ice cream just cos it felt like sticking two fingers up to the cow.

Gingernaut · 07/01/2018 22:43

Yeah. Them Audi drivers are twats!

I hope you enjoyed the cake, OP.

Sweetpea55 · 08/01/2018 09:42

Sorry OP.. Id forgotton what a bitch hormones are,,
Hope the cake was good,,and a good cry makes you feel better,x

dontbesillyhenry · 08/01/2018 16:34

Oi-I drive an Audi!

FairfaxAikman · 08/01/2018 17:19
