To be struggling so much with passwords

I have always used the same password for everything which I know you shouldn’t do but honestly otherwise I don’t know how to stay on top without writing it down.

Mine was a complicated one with letters and numbers but it keeps being rejected for not having an uppercase letter which means I end up with something like Pets name year of birth which isn’t very secure!

How does everyone else manage it?

Question about lastpass will it let me keep my current passwords or does it change them all?

I currently use 1password but I think I use the original beta so don't seem to be able to use it on another computer.

I have a couple of concurrent systems, like others describe.

Else, I can remember my email passwords & reset passwords every time I use a site.

Struggle is somewhere like Skype, who don't let you use any historical passwords. This leads to many email resets, I think Skype password might be currently be BollocksMcBollockFace.

Lastpass not a solution b/c I use many websites & devices, which I don't have admin privileges on (cannot install apps), & in different locations so I can't rely on something (like a phone or notebook) that I could forget to bring.

I guess I could set up a google doc list... but then what if link to google docs goes down.

Clues to my passwords are often written down.

Security guys at work say their passwords have to be a minimum of 15 characters. Shock

Another vote here for Lastspass -@Wallywobbles you don't have to crest new passwords it will import passwords saved in your computer but you will need to manually add any that are not saved.

2 stage authentication: irk.

I got locked out of HMRC (self assst) b/c I changed my phone number but didn't tell HMRC. Had to ring them up to fix that, and then wait a week. As if self-assst wasn't hassle enough.

I have resisted having my phone on all waking hours & in my near proximity & charging every night & on a contract so that data is reasonably cheap. I know I will have to admit defeat, soon, though.

My work building mostly has no mobile reception. I don't have to access private logins while at my desk, but boy is it convenient.

I'm the same, I've taken to emailing them to myself and that's helped.

I have a system which I don’t know is very secure. The first bit of the password is the same for every website, the last bit relates to the website itself. So I only have to remember one password, then add the first bit of the website.

For your email do you have a different one to that system or two factor authentication. If not would recommend it, for example if mumsnet got hacked and they saw your email and password, they could then see the pattern and try and log into other things and getting into email obviously the worst as could then see everything your signed up with and do password and contact info resets.

Someone up thread already mentioned it but haveibeenpwned.com is good for checking if your in any hacked data dump. I'm signed up to be notified when my emails show up.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Keychain. If you have a Mac all your passwords stored there. If you have an iphone or ipad go into settings > internet > passwords and find them all listed.
