To not see the big deal with mother's day

I've apparently upset her as Im away for mother's Day. But she's decided to celebrate the us mother's day even though she lives in Donington! My brother is in the us so that's probably why.

Dp mother is in France and celebrates it on the French day just to confuse things more.

Why are they all different dates and why does it matter so much what you do on this day

TheQueenOfWands · 06/01/2018 19:04

Fuck, when is it?

Not tomorrow is it??

Homemenu1 · 06/01/2018 19:04

Different things matter to different people, Mother's Day is important to me as a why of people to show they care

Ieatcake · 06/01/2018 19:07

But why on one day to show they care?

No it's not until march

It sometimes falls on my birthday. When it does I feel short changed.

Jeez, I was in panic mode for a moment.

If she's decided to celebrate the US Mother's Day then that's May - not March.

It's never been a big deal to me, certainly not to the extent of needing to be around extended family (although that might be because we live nowhere near either of our families), but it's nice to be celebrated and thanked for a day - even if it is just with a card and a token gift which the DC have chosen to show that they care. Similarly, while neither DH nor I celebrate with our mothers, we do send cards/flowers/a small gift.

FWIW when we lived in the US the DC celebrated me on the US day, but we sent cards/gifts to DM & MIL on the UK day as they live in the U.K.

Are you making her feel special on other days? It doesn't hurt to make someone feel good on one day.

As a family we always celebrate 'Mothering Sunday'. I can't imagine not visiting my mum on that day. I always mark it on my calendar to keep free. This year it falls on my husband's 40th birthday, but I will still visit my mum too.
