AIBU to think you replace the loo roll!?

redstararnie76 · 05/01/2018 20:59

AIBU to think that if you use the last of the loo roll, you replace it! Not leave it for your loving wife, who may have happened to overlook the fact that the loo roll was empty.... I accept that it was naive/stupid of me not to check this before committing, however surely if you use the last of the loo roll, it's only reasonable to replace it?
I initially assumed this might be the work of my 7 year old son, so started to explain to him this etiquette point, only for my husband to (unashamedly) correct me and argue that it is the responsibility of the toilet user. Is it just me, AIBU or is the bloody husband smug AND right?
Thank-you all.

I do not understand how this hasn’t come up in the 7+ years you’ve been with him?!?!?

at your expectations (after 30+ years of living with same man)

thelastredwinegum · 05/01/2018 21:05

Don't replace, just take your own in when you need to go Grin

No it’s the responsibility of the person using the last of the roll to replace it! Drives me potty as DH and DS are always doing this and say “they forget”- which translates to “ can’t be arsed to walk downstairs to the back of the house to the cupboard where they are kept”. I now have my own secret roll which I use on those times when I go to bed last, they’ve all used the loo roll and it’s empty and I get up there and have to come all the way back again! It’s beyond annoying and odd because in all other ways they are pretty good and considerate!

roses2 · 05/01/2018 21:07

Why don't you keep spare loo roll in the bathroom?

UnderTheDesk · 05/01/2018 21:07

LTB. Seriously, he is really really wrong. It is so obviously the responsibility of the person who uses the last of the toilet roll to provide a new roll, that your husband must be some sort of psychopath not to see this.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2018 21:09

I also don't understand why the spare loo roll isn't in the bath room?

Whiat is this strange way of living you speak Grin

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2018 21:11

i can’t be arsed to walk downstairs to the back of the house to the cupboard where they are kept

Why do you keep them there? Confused

redstararnie76 · 05/01/2018 21:11

thelastredwinegum - I like that idea, I may adopt it (possibly at the same time as removing all other toilet rolls)
We've been together nearly 16 years, I'm not sure how this hasn't come up before - perhaps he was easing me in gradually, trying to win the 'toilet seat up' battle before exposing me to the non-changing toilet roll position?
We do keep the loo roll in the bathroom - but it's kept in the cupboard on the far side (a far few waddles away)

mine replaces, just got to get him throw the empty roll in the bin which is next to the fucking toilet now.

Christmasaurus · 05/01/2018 21:16

Mine leaves literally a sheet or two on the roll so, you know, he didn’t actually finish it....

redstararnie76 · 05/01/2018 21:17

thelastredwinegum - oh god no, my husband can't possibly throw them in the bin (also next to the loo), I'm constantly picking them up....hmm, I'm starting to think that perhaps we need a support group?

DH isn't adverse to getting a new roll from the bathroom cupboard if need be. However, if I didn't actually take the used one off the holder (and put it in the bin) and replace it with the new one, he'd be happy to have the roll balanced on the radiator. If I left them long enough, he'd probably end up with a nice collection of used loo rolls within arms length from the toilet.

And yes, there's a bin just by the sink.

People at my work leave the roll empty all the time. Really annoys me!

PseudoQuim · 05/01/2018 21:48

Not only should the person who used the last of the roll replace it, they need to put it the right way round too...

AIBU to think you replace the loo roll!?
speakout · 05/01/2018 21:49

Has never crossed my mind

I keep a big pack of loo rolls in the toilets, always within grasp while still seated.

No big deal.

ItWentInMyEye · 05/01/2018 21:49

My 'D'P will happily start a new roll... but not replace it on the holder. He'll just leave it balanced on top of the radiator below the holder, for me to shift the empty cardboard. I rarely mention it, unlike his frequent rage at me forgetting to close the toothpaste Hmm

Singlebutmarried · 05/01/2018 22:14

Nope.

I purchase many loo rolls in one go (Costco) and over both loos they all fit in.

So many loo rolls, you don’t have to hunt for one.

Yet.....even though I’ve installed those very simple bog roll holders that you simple slide on (or off if empty) I still find myself being the only person that can replace.

No even just DH tho...builders here this week and they’ve left the empty roll on the holder and started a new roll.

*they (the builders) all clean and bleach the loo after each use....bless them.

They’re ace.

meredintofpandiculation · 05/01/2018 22:30

When there is a wastepaper basket sitting next to the loo, why is it so difficult to use it? Why does the cardboard tube have to be left on the cistern?
