To have thought of MN when I read this [grin]

New research says that most women in the UK do not take a bath or shower daily. I straight away thought that MN would not approve.

Meh, I have the odd night off.

Fekko · 05/01/2018 18:10

What are they selling?

Skowvegas · 05/01/2018 18:19

Funny you should ask Fekko.

"The survey of over 2,000 females by skin care range Flint + Flint..."

DeltaWave · 05/01/2018 18:22

This is one of my pet peeves - an advert dressed up as an article:

Some 57 per cent of women acknowledged the importance of hygiene

The survey of over 2,000 females by skin care range Flint + Flint

In other words: women need to wash every day because otherwise it's unhygienic, and you should use Flint + Flint products to do so because they look after your skin.

But why do we need to use products that are especially good for your skin? Because washing every day strips away natural oils, exacerbates allergies and skin complaints and can weaken the natural barrier that prevents skin infections.

This has put me off the Indy, to be honest. They're perpetuating the myth that women must take whatever steps necessary, no matter how self-detrimental or expensive they are, to avoid being thought of as unclean.

Fekko · 05/01/2018 18:22

Would that be a soap range for women?

Anniegetyourgun · 05/01/2018 18:23

Well nobody asked me, or for that matter anyone I know. Who are "most women" if they don't include, er, most women?

Fekko · 05/01/2018 18:24

Can’t be ‘most’ in a sample of 2k!

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2018 18:25

Never heard of Flint. I was not surveyed, I shower twice a day so I must be making up for some of these women that don't.

RoseAndRose · 05/01/2018 18:27

I've looked.

It's mainly 'skincare' ie expensive face potions. They have ranges marketed to both men and women. But if you wanted to buy the full range of womenMs products, it's an eye-watering £275.

strugglingtodomybest · 05/01/2018 18:30

I don't, and no advertising on earth is going to persuade me that I need to.

I agree with Delta and I thought more of the Indy, can't believe it's stooping to these levels.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2018 18:31

Are you on their marketing team crunchy?

crunchymint · 05/01/2018 18:53

No I am not Grin Would never buy expensive skin care products. Total waste of money.

A survey of over 2000 women really? I'm amazed and sceptical Shock

How come a beauty product manufacturer that I've never heard of manages a sample size that big, when massive multinationals like LOreal or whatever have ads on the telly that say "60% of 72 women recommend using [insert expensive product with made up scientific-ish name here]" ? Confused

crunchymint · 05/01/2018 19:43

Report them to Trading Standards if you are sceptical. They have to then prove it.

That would cost about £500 to get an agency to cold call/collar women in the street and ask them a few questions. Just buy a list and off you go.
