You have a hallway in your house. If you opened the front door and walked in, you would find a light switch immediately on your left hand side. It has two switches. One turns on the downstairs lights. The other turns on the landing lights upstairs.

Which switch turns on the DOWNSTAIRS lights, one or two?

waddya mean electrician says "should"?
I don't think there is a law about it.

You're electrician is wrong Grin
I'm with you OP, the other way around would seem strange. Switch 1 has to be for downstairs. Ours is the same

TruJay · 05/01/2018 19:55

Oh dear I mean your of course

StorminaBcup · 05/01/2018 19:56

1 for downstairs.

The bottom light switch on our landing does upstairs and the top one does downstairs. I’ve lived here for 3 years now and I turn the wrong one on every single time.

I have similar in my utility room, one switch is for the utility room light, the other is for the outside light. Annoyingly the closest to the door is for the inside light!
