When it comes to buying cars? I'm a people pleaser and as such feel stupid or scared to offend people!

If you were going to look at a car and you liked it, what would you offer if it was priced at say 6k, had done average miles for its year and came with standard spec? From a dealer.

Op the air con system stopped working. In a boiling few weeks in summer, with a newborn who hates the heat 😭

It was a right faff. The system uses the 'new gas' so has to go to a mains dealer, my local garage didn't have the equipment. Had to pay for a diagnostic to figure out if it just needed re-gassing or if the pipes had broken. Of course the pipes were broken, and it involved a fair amount of work to fix, and parts were pricey. Then it needed re/gassing with this bloody diamond encrusted new sodding gas. £600 all in. Gutting.

The warranty iirc covered everything but only for 3 months. This happened at around 7 months in. To be fair the dealer sold it to me with the MOT just completed so I think it was more bad luck than a shit car. I hope...

I'll be paying much more attention to warranties from now on. And as well as MOTs, take a look at when the next major service is due. If within 6 months, I'd ask them to be doing that.

The ones I'm looking at all have long MOTs and I always check the advisories online (GOV website) and then get them to fix whatever is on there before I buy.

The GOV site is great for checking MOT history for anyone who doesn't know about it!

I take roughly a third off as a starting price, DH cringes when it happens, I went with him to buy his car, saved us 2k, an MOT and all the advisories fixed.

I think the dealer was too shocked with the cheek to disagree, given I said not a word about the car until it came to the price. Must have looked like a little woman trawling round her husband as he looked at the cars Grin
